I feel like adding skingroups doesn't really do much for not needing others to download the mod. If you did that method it'd still be jank and unintuitive for people not running the mod since ammo piles would all look the same but just randomly have between 1-4 uses with no way for them to discern, at least the error sign lets them intuitively know the host forgot to send them the addon.

I would actually recode this from scratch and adding extra settings, bug fixes, and more.

However if I can report one major problem that needs to be reworked until I feel like not doing it anymore, is how you set up the models, I recommend set up multiple bodygroups in one model in order and using CBaseAnimating's bodygroup functions to change the models instead of extra precached models to ensure people who don't have this add-on installed will not see errors.

Did you add spawnflags = 4, to the prop_physics_override entity's keyvalues?
If you did and it still didn't work, an alternate option would be to assign the physics prop to a local variable and use NetProps.SetPropInt(entityName, "m_CollisionGroup", 1) to manually set COLLISION_GROUP_DEBRIS on them.

I tried adding the debris flag initially and it didn't seem to work. If you know how to make it function properly I'm all ears. For survival, why not just turn the addon off when you go to enter a survival map?

Next time you update this, consider adding a "Debris" flag to the can prop if possible. That way the player can not collide with it, but it'll still roll across the floor when shot or hit. Also consider making this infinite for Survival gamemode, as all the other comments are requesting this to be nerfed.

I wish there was a version where this didn't apply to Survival. But overall I hella love this mod, it makes things tense and challenging in a good way.

This is a really cool mod. Adds that realism since ammunition is not limitless. Might make this a core mechanic in my recreation of the old build of No More Room in Hell 2 if that's fine. :steamthumbsup:

@Hero Unit, thanks, understood you loud and clear. im going to let you know when i release it because im curious about what you'd think of it as well. but that said yeah, what you've made is really cool and i would rather have asked and be sure than unknowingly cross a line. happened to me a few too many times than id like to admit and i dont want it happening again.

as for the new models, maybe when im more free. i will let you know. one thing i was wondering actually is if its possible you could just make the code separate from the models?so that those who want to make their own stuff can just pick from a selection of models. a modular collection 🤔

ofc that depends on how many ppl want to make their own models but itd be a solution to a potential precache limit

Also if you have a 4-3-2-1-0 set for a new model, you can send it. I will most likely add the models to this mod and update the code to support them. That goes for anyone else. I will be testing after any new sets of models if adding them hurts performance at all though. If that occurs, I'll stop adding more. I'm not really sure how intense precaching tons of models could end up being. As of right now, it's 0 performance impact so there is room for more.

Keep your mod to yourself if it's novel. Release it when it's ready. You can adopt my code. Once you open the .vpk and look at my comments you'll see I never intended to hog this or bully people out of making derivative work. I will be sad if anyone clones it with a minor insignificant change and uploads it to the workshop but I also won't go after anyone for doing it. I'd like to see my method expanded upon in a clever way, but I have no control over if that happens or not.

and as for potential custom model compatibility, that would certainly be nice. id really like if there was an integration of Oxxys Ammo Pack Adjustments and Ammo Upgrades Consistency specifically, and if you do end up going with that idea, i might throw my hat in the ring with a model set based on those two.

@Hero Unit i agree itd be lame to just post something that only contains a minor change, but thats wasnt really something im intending to do in the first place. the ammo mod im planning has a whole host of other features that your mod would only be a small part of when all is said and done. the reason i asked for permission is because the logic of having the piles update IS unique, and would synergize very well with the rest of the features im planning.

im aware im being vague, but i dont really want to spell out my idea here simply cause i just dont want someone to beat me to it. if you're curious or skeptical however i am willing to explain the mod idea through dms or something. but even if not, tldr is that what ill post isnt just gonna be your mod with slight alterations, but rather something part of a bigger project.

I mean, there's people out there like me that plays with increased survivor limit, which is why I suggested to have the ability in the config to increase maximum uses

There's no way to increase it to 8 maximum uses. Our mod limits to 4 because during playtesting we felt anything over 4 didn't actually limit your ammo, it was effectively infinite ammo. We wanted this to actually be a limited ammo mod. However, you can set every single pile to be 4 uses. At 4 uses per pile, you are pretty much at unlimited ammo already. As long as you don't fire off one bullet and then grab ammo. If you're say, in the finale and you only grab ammo when you're low you're looking at infinite ammo essentially. If you top off after one bullet, you may struggle, but the point of this mod is an immersive limited ammo situation, not infinite ammo with piles that visually deplete but the depletion has no actual meaning.

@kouga, what do you plan on doing differently? If it's basically a reupload of ours but with a minor change, might be kind of lame to be honest. However, I did fully comment my code with the intention of people being able to read it, understand what I did, and make derivative mods. I think my solution to limited ammo is unique and there's nothing else like it in the workshop atm. What I did could even be applied to other things besides ammo. With that said, I'd be a little unhappy with a mod that's identical save for a very minor change. Although, it's not like I'm going to stop you.

If you just want more compatibility with other models, it is something Rayne and I are considering. Either allowing people to send a full model set for a 4-3-2-1-0 ammo pile that I would handle myself in adding to the code, or Rayne creating some new models and having me update the code to include them.
