Although there is no practical separation for ground and building material, you can instead measure vertex color, size and direction, and filter in the terrain grass. You can look up the dev's implementation of snow/grass season detector in the opaque shader.

Unfortunately I think it's all one single material, but i'm not the original developer and I don't know programming like at all so i'm not sure.
