Would it be possible to get a mode where all of your settlements simply get assigned a name from from your new civs city list?

Noice a classic

@sweendogz - the name lists (i.e. what cities are assigned to what civs, how many there are, and the order in which cities appear) are unchanged by this mod, so if that's what you want to change you'd have adjust the base-game files. Otherwise, you could just go in adjust the text files for whatever name you want to tweak (Keep in mind this could get overwritten by future updates!) - the mod files are kept in a folder like Program Files\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1295660. Each mod has its own sub-folder - I think this one's is 3553557949.

Can we modify the names lists?

Littéralement le meilleur !:steamhappy:

oh, seems like I didn't understand true purpose of your mod, sorry. Then seems like I'm looking for different mod :D. I'm looking for mod that changes all Settlements names to new Civ names on Age Transition. Reason for this mod was that I don't see a lot of Modern Age settlement names, because you don't much settle in Modern Age, so there is no Modern Age Settlement names. And I don't like idea that you have old settlement names from previous age, I think it would be cool to have only your civ names on each age.

Why some names are not accurate like "Rim"?:D Is there're mod option to make it as original as "Rome"?
I think this one is ruining my history knowledge of city names lol. And in some day I also gonna call "Rome" as "Rim" lol. And some names like Sankt-Peterburg might be correct for locals spelling, but worldwide its spelled differently. Maybe if possible option of names like "worldwide" and "local" would be cool

@bellls-worth - thanks for the report! Someone else reported this and it seems like a bug somehow with how the base game handles localization. I'll get it fixed in the next update, but please let me know if you see anything else like this!

One weird thing: when this mod is active on my computer, it translates 'Lenses' after clicking on lens toggles in the bottom left corner of the screen to 'Gorna Dzoumaya.' Not sure why this is, but after disabling this mod it goes back to lenses.

PEAK. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO LOVE YOUR POST SINCE I SAW IT. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD PEAK WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE BILLIONTH OF THE PEAK YOU COOKED AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT.

just came back after a multi month hiatus to see a cat dropping peak from the sealing

Fantastic! Well done SeelingCat!
I'm looking forward to trying this mod. I've been manually changing city names for a while. I use a list of the oldest German cities originally founded by the Romans for example.
Renouf 8
Amazing mod! I think there's a lot of potential for a similar system for renaming player commanders like how Trung Trac's first commander is called Trung Nhi. Playing Greece could give you Leonidas or Achilles, Rome could give you Scipio Africanus or Germanicus, et cetera. It would slot in really nicely with the Leader / Civ setting you've got in this mod so Leaders could have uniquely named generals - Genghis getting Subutai and his sons, Lafayette getting his Revolutionary allies like George Washington, Catherine getting Potemkin, etc.
@Kastel - by all means! I don’t think the text contents of the mod should change too much (except for the variant names file since that’s an ongoing project), but you may want to keep a separate copy of the files as you work so that nothing gets overwritten and you can keep track of any names that get added/changed
Kastel 8
@SeelingCat Thank you for the clear answer. Would you mind if I try to transliterate (probably assisted by machine translator) all the XMLs in Korean syllables? It will surely take a while though...
@Kastel - theoretically yes, you'd just have to add entries for the localization strings in whatever language you wanted, and the game should load them instead of the english ones if you're game is set to use that language.

@daigotsumax - each civ/leader has defined languages, and when conquering or founding a city, the mod will look to see if its language(s) has a name for that city and if it does it'll change the name. There's also some cities that will change the 'base' name when conquered by some civs/leaders, like if Europeans conquer Tenochtitlan it'll switch over to using names for Mexico City.
How does the mod determines whether to change as per your civ or leader?
Kastel 8
@SeelingCat As I thought so. Is the theoretically possible, though? I looked down the mod structure and I think it maybe possible by replacing all city names listed in the XML files in the 'text' folder into different locale.
@The stoic prince - I'd say it's like 90% the same as how the one for 6 worked; with some additional features and some tweaks for civ 7 gameplay; it also should run much faster!
@Chenmiker94 - yeah it's an issue that I noticed but haven't yet figured out a good solution to just yet; It's on my to-do list though for future work!

@Kastel - Unfortunately, given the scale of the mod, I can't provide support for other languages. Theoretically a mod-mod could add support for other languages, but it would be a big undertaking.
The stoic prince 8
does the mod work like the one in civilization vi?
Kastel 8
Cool mod. Is there any possibility to support other locales?
Hey SeelingCat, welcome back and great mod! One small oversight is that when you age transition the "becomes capital city" effect uses the old city names but the mod has already changed them all. This makes it so you have to remember which settlement was which from the previous age when choosing to upgrade to a capital.
Uns 8
A must-have mod returns! Thank you!
@Renouf - yes! It just determines what language(s) it’ll use amid those changes. Everything else should work normally!
Renouf 8
If I set names to be based on my leader's language, will I still see features like names changing after certain dates or based on certain governments? Really enjoying the leader function for that extra bit of variety in Antiquity but I don't want to miss out on extra content!!
One of my favourite Civ mods of all time, thank you for bringing it to VII <3
