the amount of stars in that image are between 5,500 and 8,500.

This number is entirely dependent on the arbitrary brightness threshold I had to choose. If I lowered the threshold, it would count even more faint pixels (increasing the count). If I raised it, it would exclude dim stars (decreasing the count). For this reason, no exact count is technically correct or defensible.

1-Isolating the Background: The three main bright stars and their large glows were masked out to focus solely on the thousands of tiny background specks.

2-Thresholding: The background image was converted to grayscale, and a strict brightness threshold was applied to distinguish faint light from pure black space noise.

3-Counting Objects: A connected component labeling algorithm was made and run to count every distinct cluster of bright pixels that passed the threshold, treating each cluster as a "star."

Using a reasonable threshold to exclude the darkest noise, the analysis identified a highly dense field. The count for these detectable, individual background specks is in the range of:
7,000±1,500.

How many stars though?
