Oh, either that or add an option to enter it from your inventory without putting it down!
Can you make it automatically make a journal note when you set it down and then remove the note when you pick it back up?

Oh yikes. I don't know what I could do to fix that nasty crash. I don't really understand how the golem works.

I'll look into making it animateable (though my fear is it would try to follow you into itself or break the enter function entirely), and I'll do a little testing around the recoiling issue. A programmable recoiler might work already, I've not tested it myself.

Love this. Would LOVE a way to mitigate the risk of forgetting it somewhere, whether that's a way to recoil to your house, a way to summon it to you, a way to animate it as a companion, or just a way to track it in the journal. Probably the easiest way to implement would be to simply make spray-a-brains work on it, but any number of these would be great to have.

I had hoped to be able to mitigate the risk of losing it by putting the entrance inside the golem, but unfortunately it follows you inside and detaches the entrance from space and time, crashing the game when you try to exit.

Not through any of my efforts, I assure you. Nice, though!

So, weirdly my portable hole showed up as a point of interest in Yd.. no idea why or how lol
Hm, nope, portable holes are a classic dungeons and dragons item, a lot of moddable RPG-adjacent games with inventory management issues wind up picking them up eventually in one form or another.
Blueflowers 5
ngl when i saw this i thought "portable hole" was some kinda Looney Tunes ♥♥♥♥ where you could create a hole to the next strata whenever you wanted
Clarissa  [
Yeah I lost a portable house deep underground once, and I was not spiral boring so it was probably like 40 screens from the parasang I started in. It's pretty frustrating, but I can hope it'll be a one-time mistake.
Ampscraze 5
No problem! Yeah I just occasionally forget to pick them back up… but that’s a me problem lol.
Clarissa  [
That's definitely beyond my ability... but the point is to carry them around with you anyway.
Ampscraze 5
This mod is great! Not sure how feasible this is, but could they show up as a point of interest when placed?
Pizzarugi 3
I like the concept of this mod. Originally I was hoping to find one that forces each merchant to spawn in the Six-Day Stilt, but couldn't find one. This mod does effectively what I want so I'm not at the mercy of RNG to find a bookbinder or gun merchant.

Okay, I finally see what you're saying, Wormwood. Even at 25/25 or "Perfect" condition it has a repair button that eats your bits if you push it. I'll do some investigating but I don't currently know what could be causing that.
I intended them to be kinda fragile, yeah. I've been playing with it the latest version and my portals never need repair, because I never put them down with hazards around. I just thought like, logically jumping into your portable hole is not a good escape route because it would leave your portable hole in the custody of whoever is chasing you, so I didn't make them strong enough to serve as a viable escape (since I don't think non-followers can follow you into the portal.)
Wormwood 2
Is there a bug with the durability? I seem to be constantly needing to repair it at 25/25 durability.
It's now listing it at 0.95238%, so still uncommon but much more likely to appear

Okay, I have fixed the population tables, hopefully it's a little more sane now.
That is not the intended behavior. Giving it a look, In fact, I don't know how it's working at all with how bad I screwed up the population table code. I have an appointment in a few minutes but I expect I'll post an update later today.
Trying it on a run and haven't encounter one yet. Decided to check and ran the population:findblueprint wish on the portable hole. The table it's home to, Utility 3, has a listed chance of 0.04762% of rolling it. For comparison, metamorphic polygel clocks in at 0.99169% on the same table. Is this correct? (I don't have any other mods that add items.)

Not complaining, just making sure it was intended to be hella rare.
I just briefly tested it, and unfortunately it instacrashed trying to load the save.
can you add this during the middle of a run and it will be ok?
Damn, it was cool, like item box on qud version
Doesn't matter where you use it, actually. Each individual portal leads to its own instance, always. Put ten portable mall portals in Joppa, works fine.

If a portal gets destroyed (e.g. by corrosive gas), that instance of the interior is gone for good, so be mindful of where you're dropping them.

I've never seen an NPC that wasn't my follower go inside one of the portals. I can't tell you whether its strictly possible or not.
High Rads | Nuka Cola 1
So it's not an item that always creates portals that lead to already "existing" location, but rather creates NEW instances of them, if you use it in different parasangs?

Also, can random NPCs (traders, enemies etc.) wander in the teleport, or does it ignore anything else passing it, other than the player?
Also, each portal leads to a new instance of the interior space (so you can have multiple wards and malls), you can place and use portals within portals and still find your way out (tested 3 deep), etc.
You drop the portal on the ground, interact with it and enter it (or simply walk into its spot), and you will be transported to the interior area. There is a return portal inside.

Each portal weighs 10 lbs, and yes they're available to be found randomly in the world or with merchants.

Followers do come with you through the portal, in or out.

As far as I know, parking merchants in the portable facilities should work. I haven't run into a problem with it yet.

The Hole, House, and Ward are safe to leave things lying around and use the containers. Because the Portable Mall has vendors (and therefore randomized guard NPCs), it is possible that something will spawn that endangers your stuff. Look around first.

The walls are destroyable, but the levels do not extend beyond them.
High Rads | Nuka Cola 1
So these are... items you can use (as many time as you want, so NOT exactly consumable), which transport you to the extra dimensional facility, which then has a teleport that returns you to the same spot you used the item from?

Do these portable items weigh anything, can it be found completely randomly (item tiers?) are those sold by merchants as well? Will followers follow you in them, and always come out with you? Can you use Proselytize to bring merchants/NPCs in the area, then dismiss them to keep them in there forever? Can you somehow destroy the walls? Can you safely leave items on the ground AND chests, without fear of anything stealing them?
These have been added to population tables, by the way, so you'll find them in the world if you ain't the wishin' type.
