Really a must have for the L4D1 maps. That one huge lag spike that would happen at the start of Dead Air is gone.

Come to think of it, technically speaking you would only really need to merge the other two mods, as both overwrite everything in this mod.

The "L4D1 Common Infected Overhaul" mod most likely edits all the same CI models that i did, so all of the "Making l4d1 ci look like l4d2 ci" will be gone immediately, undoing all that this mod tried to achieve. Cause you can't make the l4d1 ci look like l4d2 ci, but then also insist of having even more l4d1 ci. Makes no sense.

The "Extended Common Infected" mod probably adds even more CI to the l4d2 maps via the population file.

So you really only need to merge the model folders of both mods and that's probably it. Unless the L4D1 ci mod also has a population file inside. then you'd need to merge both line by line, keeping whatever population sections you want to keep from either of the mods.

But nothing stops you from merging the mods into one, so to speak.
as long as you don't upload it to the workshop.

there's a lot of mutual exclusivity with those mods.
My mod and one of those all edit the l4d1 infected. You could just modify the mod loadorder to do that.

But the extended ci mod probably edits the population files as well.
So what i would need to do is not "make it compatible" but i'd have to actually join both mods into one.

It wasn't Valve.
It was a bunch of modders that made up the "The Last Stand" crew.
There was only one valve employee in that team, to actually push all the updates.

Guess who wasn't allowed to join that team?
Hint: It's the guy who fixes all their shit. (me)

A godsent add-on! It actually made The Last Stand campaign more playable/enjoyable/bearable for me on lower-end hardware. Before installin' this, the frames-per-second dropped quite badly, especially on the Lighthouse part of the map.

Makes ya think the TLS update was a mistake by people who should really have known better.

Guys "updated" the l4d1 ci and broke optimization, then they made an unoptimized map using beginner level mistakes, left in a couple unused models in the game files, felt the need to plaster credits and other self referential graffiti into said maps because "look mom, i did this", broke other models that they didn't even need to touch like the gatling...

Meanwhile i'm over here fixing their nonsense CI updates, fixing the uv errors on their own models, along with precaching junk that they added via scripts and forgot to precache them...

My favorite game ruined by the sheer incompetence by people i looked up to.

I find criminal that this issue is still in the game , stuttering like crazy on new hardware setups is craaaazy stuff , you would expect this to be top priority at this point but come on its been so long already guys VALVE / TLS.

just one question on the l4d1 female animations. is it possible for them to use the l4d2 animations? (not disliking the mod, i personally use it all the time)

This is good for PRE-TLS addons! Hopefully one day someone makes an addon that restores L4D1's reduced gore, just the limbs and head etc.

There's nothing we can do that doesn't cripple your game in another way.
Reducing the huge CRAPTON of skins will fix the lag, but it will break the gore system when playing online. So the only true fix is for the one dev that pushed the updates to undo his screw up, if they even know how to do that.

Holy goddamn sun shine on you! I've been looking for something like this mod for a hell of a lot of time! Since my mod subscriptions reached 500+ pieces, it became impossible to play on l4d1 maps due to wild lag spikes. And now this problem is solved! Thank you very much! :steamhappy:

It was one single valve employee that did the whole programming bits and pushing updates, while (afaik) the few modders who should have known better made all the actual "content"

And I do agree that L4D2 Common Infected are way optimized and they load faster than L4D1 ones.

I wonder what was Valve thinking while bringing back the L4D1 Common Infected that causes a HUGE lag at the beginning of every map of a certain campaign that has L4D1 CI.

Depends on how your mod works.
If it only edits the textures, you'll be able to see those in multiplayer.
But if your mod edits the l4d2 ci, then you'll still see the "default" l4d2 ci models instead of all l4d1 ci.

However, since in singleplayer it edits the population files, you'll always see the actual l4d2 models, whatever texture or model mod you have installed for those.

This may be a stupid question, but if I have a CI mod that re-skins the L4D2 CI, will this mod change the L4D1 commons to the modded/re-skinned L4D2 CI?

That's weird, because the colors mean nothing, since they're the same model tinted a different color. And last i checked, the l4d1 variants use the same anims as the l4d2 variants do.

Theoretically, every CI has LOD models. Simply because having any lod (even if it is just bones) will also include its own model. They may not have reduced polygon lod models, but they do have lod models. The game handles that a little funnily,.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remembered there's no LOD for the L4D2 un/commons model; maybe that would also help to reduce the stutter. I know it's little, but it's an additional performance gain.
