you move the cursor after the ping has finished to find range. it doesnt have any actual impact on the sonar itself. Multiple returns could be fish or just anything else in the selected FOV. this is general advice but im not really sure about how youre using this thing in the first place

Another update, As long as i set the main range to 9km and the cursor range to within a few kilometers, i can line up the pointer with the first ping.

When the first ping crosses the pointer, the target's ping appears, albeit with an undershoot of 200m.

Update: i moved the range to 4km, but both pings seem to be almost on top of each other when i set the cursor range to 1km.

By extension, should I even be receiving a ping if my boat is the only one in range?

@Nova For learning how to use it, ive set a submerged submarine about a kilometer away from my boat. However, i seem to still get another ping when the range is set to 500m. What particularly do you mean by lining up the pointer?

Is there a chance it's picking up the lifeboats i have stored on the boat?

both pings line up? Line the pointer up with the peaks in the top dial to find range. if you get a return at all it means its within the bearing range set in the bottom range

as long as the pings line up, the range is correct?

Sorry to bother you, but I don't know if I've got it down. I feel like I can determine the bearing by adjusting until both pings line up, but I'm not sure what to look for with determining range. Any pointers?
