@Don - That's because the family title they hold is considered a duchy level title. No easy way to fix this.

landless adventurers get the same color as dukes, can u fix it?

is it compatible with ketaros portrait decorations mod? that one adds a colored background based on rank too. its very cool with the exception of the colored text ruining the logscreen
