Regarding rotting, note that the appearance of opened cans doesn't change, but the label changes. The same goes for cooked sausage; even its appearance should change. Many players prepare sausage and then are surprised that the label says "fresh," but it's poisoning.

Regarding soaking, I personally would be more interested in pouring it into the pan once and then doing it twice. :)

@Bender, hi, sorry Im missing context - what does not work? :)
1. they do rot, if this is enabled in the config - but they rot like the vanilla spaghetti can etc. this is, at some point they make you sick, but its not visible in the item. this is default dayz mechanic for such items.
2. yes, thats how its implemented. the alternative would be that you have soaked food items. if I get more feedback that people would prefer this, I will consider to change it.

It still doesn't work, or I'm missing something.
1. Cooked sausages, opened cans, and boxes of food don't rot.
2. If you fill a pot full of water, but the recipe only calls for half, it's all used up.
(The most annoying thing is that the food doesn't spoil).
By the way, the author. Please note that the game files include a "military mess kit." If there's a way to enable it for crafting and storing, that would be great.

Hello @Peetpan, I'd like to thank you in advance for the work and development of this mod. I found the idea very interesting.

I'd like to adjust the mod's recipes or create new ones. Is that possible?
I'm setting up a server on the Namalsk map, and some of the animals aren't from that map. I'd also like to use the fish I already have on the server to create different recipes, even if the can layout is the same. I'd just like to be able to give the player the recipe instructions from the book and have it generate an item for them. I don't know if that's the intention or if something like this already exists. I'd also like to hear your thoughts on this approach.

@FoofahX, hi, I dont see splitable items in the GM mod. Splitable like Rags, Worms, Bullets or my empty cans. The zen mod creates items with a quantity 0.01 (which is rounded by dayz in the frontend to 0 - and does not make it usable for most purposes). You can try it by "LeftoverItemType": "Rag" or "Worm" or some bullet type. Iiuc this just does not work with splitable items that have a minimum quantity of 1. (I mean technically it works of course - the item is just not usable for its main purposes.)

It worked with the gm canning food mod, there that mod dropped a regular 1 empty can. So in theory, it should work.
I tried health 100 and I tried health 1, both do not work as you mentioned.
Maybe I am reading it wrong

@FoofahX, thanks, I did not know this mod. looks cool, but unfortunately it does not seem to work with items that have an int quantity that starts with one (my empty cans can be stacked up to 10 cans). when the new item is created the quantity is set to 0.01. The same holds for other vanilla items with this property, e.g.

@Chris, hi, the blood sausage is an easter egg that is not in the cookbook by design ;)

@peetpan, It happens all the time. I DO, however, am also running Zen's @ZenLeftOvers, that might be a thing. I am not sure. The .json for that mod looks like this - obviously I want your cans to appear after consuming;

@FoofahX, thats a new one, thank you for reporting. you say, you consume a canned dish and then empty cans in the inventory show up as 0/10? Can this be reproduced reliably? Sounds very strange - maybe a mod conflict. Feel free to contact me on discord "peetpan." with a list of your mods, then I can try to reproduce it.

For some reason, the empty cans show up 0/10 and become unusable.
This happens after eating a canned item.

@Лютобор, hi, I would really like to have some indicator too. TL;DR This is more of a technical challenge.

Long version: for food items like cans and sausages agents from food decay are stored on the server (and not on the client). this is, only when you eat the food, the server adds the agents to the player. this is actually a nice system by dayz to keep this info from the client. of course this info can be synced to the client, but the effort and complexity defeats the purpose in my opinion. if dayz implements this for cans then I will happily take this over for sausages and boxes. for now the "workaround" is to disable food decay for those items.

@peetpan Hi! I understand what you mean, and even if the rotten sausages look brand new visually, how about just putting a "rotten" sign in the title like they did in the original game? Even if it wouldn't be noticeable visually in reality, in reality we would know it by smell.

And @peetpan the LUX roleplay mod has a fantastic coffee machine kit and a bunch of awesome drink recipes 😀 but would be fantastic to more within CookZ and love the mod do far i find it the best cooking mod thus far

It would be cool to also add tea bags and coffee beans that can be boiled in a cooking pot to turn the water into tea with 1x tea bag and 1x coffee bean depending on what your brewing it would be nice to have drink recipes both hot drinks such as tea , coffee , hot chocolate , latte and cappuccino and cold drinks such as strawberry milkshake, vanilla milkshake, chocolate milkshake and banana milkshake all of which the milkshakes can be made with the same flavoured ice cream and combine milk or use the bag of rice to make them into designated flavours that can be brewed via a cooking pot and maybe some bread recipes that that could be crafted that could then be turned into sandwiches when combined with cooked or dried meat or fish and maybe add a Chef uniform with the mod to like use a white lab coat and have CHEF written on the back of the lab coat and white scrub pants that are black and white checkered along with a scrub hat that is black and white checkered.

Hey Peet! Still loving the mod and using it on my servers! Suggestion, if possible, to split "EnableBoxAndCanDecay": into 2 different categories, "EnableBoxDecay": and "EnableCanDecay":

Canned food for all intents and purposes doesn't spoil compared to take out boxes.... I would love to make canned goods not spoil but have the boxed food spoil.

@Лютобор, hi, its the dayz mechanics. food items can have a full state management with raw, baked, cooked, dried, rotten like tomatoes etc - imho this does not make sense for sausages. Or they don't have it like spaghetti etc. The sausages are implemented like spaghetti. And there you also don't see visually if they get spoiled.

@peetpan For some reason, if sausage rot is enabled, there is no notification on the sausage itself, — no texture change, and no mention of it in the description. Is that intended?

@Phenom, hi, did this happen once or all the time? Please double check the recipe and the ingredients. some sausages types need one, two or even three pieces of meat. ingredient quantity needs to be >=50%.

When I put meat in with guts, it cooks then the meat disappears and the guts are left but no sausage is produced

@kanu, hi, thank you for the suggestion! :) this is already on my list, but tbh a little bit more at the end. reason: on the server Im regular playing, we are using TerjeMedicine. here you can very easy add healing properties to consumables. eg bone broth that acts like tetra or marmalade as antidepressiva.

@Booze Zombie, hi, if your server does not have other modifications the gebs fillets should be compatible. I just created white-shark-fish-sticks on my test server to check if this is still working. please note, this is a happy coincident and is due to how gebs handles the item inheritance structure. they are completely free to change this anytime - in this case I have a look, but I dont plan to actively depend on other mods.
