I do have to say, I miss the old magic of ACF where it was both fairly realistic, but also extremely simple as far as GMod+Wiremod go, where you could freeze an engine and a gearbox in midair, axis constraint a random wheel prop to the gearbox, ACF connect the three, put down two buttons that toggle between 0-100, wire to the engine, and get a spinning wheel lol

We do actually have an experimental branch that we encourage people to give feedback on, it's just not on the Workshop. I totally get the frustration with builds becoming obsolete, but we do make balance changes like requiring crew members by default for good reason. We try to make it as easy as possible to update old builds in the rare instances when we think it's for the greater good to affect existing dupes, but most of the time we do a lot to maintain backwards compatibility (and for breaking changes, we make it easy to turn them off for people who don't want to deal with them and even add some workarounds like the recreational baseplate type). Are there any particular changes that are annoying you?

it's because the recent updates seem to be things you have to opt out of if you want your finished projects to stay functional rather than something to opt into, I dunno if I'm being whiny but it is a bit frustrating ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ , maybe an experimental branch would be a good idea :GDNormal:

@BlackRash Can you share what bugs or issues you're having? We may be able to fix them, but we can't do much without knowing what the bugs actually are.

@RatLady I mean, mostly I'm just curious about what reason you want an older version for. Pretty much every change that people don't like can be turned off in the settings somewhere, and we can otherwise accommodate for changes that people still would like to see made.

The rationale is to prevent illegal vehicles from being used for competitive play. This isn't a bad thing to do, but making it the default is bad because it breaks things and makes things harder for new builders.

The ACF devs are not going to do that. I'd recommend to give ICF-3 a try. It is an ACF fork with non-competitive play as a focus.

May I ask the FAQ entry linked below to be updated with rationale? My most worked on ACF contraption right now is where the engine itself acts as "the baseplate", with all wheels and gearboxes and the fuel tank constrained to it. I'm finding myself in a rather sudden tight spot now that I apparently have to introduce an extra prop and redoing all constraints and making sure it still works just as well with the new weight distribution.

I can uncheck the legal check checkbox for singleplayer, but that might be unfeasible to ask of admins of servers lol

@vegan food user Would you be willing to provide us with the dupe? There's likely something about that specific setup that's causing errors, which we could probably fix if we were able to take a look at it.

It does no longer work. Causing so many errors on Dupe 2, unable to enter vehicles, Use E2, and so on.

I have a little question, can you dupe the contraptions you've built?
I've put up a little turret and now whenever I try to dupe wether with the vanilla duplication tool, or advanced dupe 2 it just constantly gives out either an acf hint that it couldn't copy the baseplate properly, or the adv2 dupe straight up gives an error message and spawns nothing.
Am I stupid and understanding something wrong, or is this a bug?
Here's the error message:

I've tried this addon months ago, feels like it was much simplier then it is now. Why do i need to attach a ACF engine to a ACF baseplate? Why I can't just weld it to a prop, attach everything to get the engine up and running to start driving my dupe car? Do we really need more Crews? Why make it more complicated??

I'm already struggling to get the hang of it after not using the addon for months.

Heck even the addon for in game tutorials (addon: Ponder - In Game Tutorial System API) that you guys made is already outdated.

Wake up devs.

@DarKevin You can set the Minimum Crew Efficiency multiplier (located at Serverside Settings > General Settings > Minimum Crew Efficiency) to 1 to disable the extra spread added by not having a gunner connected.

@Black Wolf You can do that if you go to Serverside Settings > Legal Checks > "Allow arbitrary parenting of ACF entities" and check that box.

@Snow™ ACE is not compatible with ACF, no. You can only use one or the other because their files will override each other.

@hamburger_walter_white Use an ACF baseplate entity as your baseplate or convert your previous one into an ACF one with the menu tool under the Baseplates tab.

This addon is not static, no ACF iteration has ever been, ACF-3 unfortunately just has stagnated in development for a while and the last year alone has had more focus put into it than the previous 3 years. We're trying to let these things remain toggleable and backwards compatible but that is not 100% possible to accomplish.

It is very easy to turn this stuff off. Please go to the ACF menu, serverside settings, legality checks, and disable arbitrary parenting restrictions. Then set the crew efficiency multiplier to 1.0.

We introduced these changes because they were necessary for combat balancing - we are the Armored *Combat* Framework after all - but if you don't want those changes you can disable them. We have plenty of other legality checks for common sense issues and I don't get why this is such a big deal beyond being new change.

Expand the min/max gearbox gear ratio settings maybe? before the update you could set it as low as 0.01 (which is 100 in the new inverted units)

I get that people are upset because the old builts dont work anymore but we got the WAC turret back guys. no more camara fidgeting! I'm so happy with this I waited like 10 years for the turret to come back. Thanks!
