I just thought while getting the Event that there has to be a mod for mortar launched flares and there really is! Thank you for making my Playthrough that much better.

Thanks @AtomicRobot, that's really helpful and should be a quick change... as soon as I tear myself away from the latest Project Zomboid update I'll update the mod (and probably get caught up testing and once again lose another 500 hours to Rimworld...)

I was having problems with my sieges and looking into the code to see what might cause the errors, before going through the hassle of disableing mods one by one.

Checking the assemblies, the function "TryFindRandomShellDef" does not check for null when evaluating the damageDef value of shells. So if your mortar shell doesn't have a damageDef set the init function for the siege will fail and no supplies get sent.

Easiest fix would be to add "Smoke" as the damageDef for the disruptor flare shell, since "Smoke" doesn't do any damage and is defined with false for "harmsHealth", so it would never be selected as viable for sieges.

Alternatively you could make a new damageDef, just make sure to set "harmsHealth" false, so it won't appear in sieges.

I've tried the 81mm from base game, Artillery from Vanilla Expanded Security, and Auto-Mortar from Vanilla Factions Expanded - Mechnoids.
I have 4 shells nearby, I've moved them around storages but on reloading the Mortars I don't get the option to load flares.

Reload options are High-explosive, Incendiary, EMP, Foam, Smoke, Anti-grain, Toxic, Tar.

Which mortar fires it? i put out every mortar I have available and made 4 mortar flares but click reload on all and none have an option for it.

@stanley thanks for the report, I'll look into that; first guess is they are getting confused when choosing which mortar shells to use.

This mod causes Sieges to not drop supplies.

Tested in Vanilla with just this mod enabled.

Current progress on the cluster shells: I can either generate a cluster of errors, or put a shell on on the ground that endlessly fills the surrounding cells with flares. So still a work in progress.

Re: cluster shells: When I started this mod that was the plan, since I expected to need custom c# code to make a mortar shell that places a flare(s). Then it turned out I could make a shell that spawned a flare on landing which could inherit a radius parameter, because Rimworld is pretty amazing about how much game behavior can be controlled via XML.

I'd like to add cluster shells, either firing X flares from the mortar or landing and spitting out X flares, but I have to figure out how to actually do that. Consider it to be on the To-Do list with no set timeline.

i agree with the previous comment. the bigger flare is perfectly fine, i just personally think a vaguely even scattering of 5-6 flares would make a little more sense, and be more visually impressive. very nice mod either way, cheers.

Kinda wish there was an option for throwing normal flares but more of them, like cluster bomb

this was exactly what I was wishing for knee deep in my six day sightstealer siege when the noctol turned up - I didn't want to use flare packs or flood lights, so I set up torch markers but what I was looking for was the ability to fire flares out from my gunline and take the fight to the enemy.
