Disruptor Flare Mortar Shells

Tired of sending "volunteers" out into the darkness with a backpack full of disruption flares to throw on the ground before being horribly torn apart by eldritch horrors? Ever looked at your mortar and thought "I wish I could stick a stick a flare in that thing and shoot across the map from the relative safety of my base?" Mortar Flares has you covered!

This mod adds a new type of mortar round, the flare shell, which can be crafted at the bioferrite shaper. Use them like any other mortar shell, but instead of exploding they leave a nice helpful disruptor flare laying on the ground. These flares are bigger than the ones used in the disruptor flare backpacks, giving them an larger illumination radius. Requires disruptor flare research and are made at a bioferrite shaper.


This mod is safe to add mid-game. It's also safe to remove, but any flare shells will vanish and you may get a few errors on your first load after removal.

I just thought while getting the Event that there has to be a mod for mortar launched flares and there really is! Thank you for making my Playthrough that much better.

Thanks @AtomicRobot, that's really helpful and should be a quick change... as soon as I tear myself away from the latest Project Zomboid update I'll update the mod (and probably get caught up testing and once again lose another 500 hours to Rimworld...)

I was having problems with my sieges and looking into the code to see what might cause the errors, before going through the hassle of disableing mods one by one.

Checking the assemblies, the function "TryFindRandomShellDef" does not check for null when evaluating the damageDef value of shells. So if your mortar shell doesn't have a damageDef set the init function for the siege will fail and no supplies get sent.

Easiest fix would be to add "Smoke" as the damageDef for the disruptor flare shell, since "Smoke" doesn't do any damage and is defined with false for "harmsHealth", so it would never be selected as viable for sieges.

Alternatively you could make a new damageDef, just make sure to set "harmsHealth" false, so it won't appear in sieges.

I've tried the 81mm from base game, Artillery from Vanilla Expanded Security, and Auto-Mortar from Vanilla Factions Expanded - Mechnoids.
I have 4 shells nearby, I've moved them around storages but on reloading the Mortars I don't get the option to load flares.

Reload options are High-explosive, Incendiary, EMP, Foam, Smoke, Anti-grain, Toxic, Tar.

Which mortar fires it? i put out every mortar I have available and made 4 mortar flares but click reload on all and none have an option for it.

@stanley thanks for the report, I'll look into that; first guess is they are getting confused when choosing which mortar shells to use.

This mod causes Sieges to not drop supplies.

Tested in Vanilla with just this mod enabled.
