I think this is decent execution, but it should be significatly slower. Other than that I think it's alright.
Maybe moving it down to behind the head would improve it too, but it's hard to say without seeing it.

Look up Cartoony Kerfuffle for a similar unusual effect that uses this idea but the effect is much slower while keeping the concept intact.

slowing it down ruins the whole concept of the effect. Keep it as is, it looks good

For every percentage you slow this down by it becomes 10X better.

if this would be slowed down, it'd be way better
