I think this is decent execution, but it should be significatly slower. Other than that I think it's alright.
Maybe moving it down to behind the head would improve it too, but it's hard to say without seeing it.

Look up Cartoony Kerfuffle for a similar unusual effect that uses this idea but the effect is much slower while keeping the concept intact.
