Is there an LOD mesh supported by Space Engineers that obscures the cursor and projectiles but does not inhibit block collison? It's possible to "fit your hand in between" the edges of blast door blocks in this fashion to access control panels behind the block, or to shoot through the gap even though it appears to be airtight.
I would suggest receding the collision mesh ever so slightly farther, as there are still collision problems with this displacement -- you must build the closest side of the blast door before retracting the rotor or else the blocks cannot be placed.
It's impossible to build compact piston apparatus without them damaging everything and causing physics glitches...
