Also 90% of the Starbound drama I've heard of starts with direct integration and I want to avoid that if at all possible.

If you upgrade it will ♥♥♥♥ up your ship badly, but if you don't do that then it should just ignore that you have the mod and use the ship you had before.

In other words, you don't have to, but you probably should.

Apparently I forgot to force it to load after M32 so guess what I have to do.
