If you upgrade it will ♥♥♥♥ up your ship badly, but if you don't do that then it should just ignore that you have the mod and use the ship you had before.

In other words, you don't have to, but you probably should.

if I add this mid-save, will my ship turn into this and I lose all of my stuff or will this only work for new saves?
