I think it's pretty wrongheaded and misses what people don't like about these reskines. They just don't consider how the added elements affects the map design as a whole. Like, mostly people are complaining about being spammed with spells and yea, the map was not designed for them in the first place and you made zero alterations to amend that. That's why people are saying it's undercooked, zero design changes that accommodate the added halloween spells.

Saying "It's not for everyone" is just really dismissive and tonedeaf.

Removing the minify spell was a good idea, although it really should've been the first thing that was tweaked when adding spells to a CTF a map. like, the first thing before even playtesting is “how will spells affect this map?” (At least I hope it was playtested...)

An update just dropped for the map in game. Let me know if this helps FPS issues for those of you that were having issues with it before!

Changelog:
Took significant steps towards improving FPS on the map, especially around the bridge
Reduced particle and prop usage around the map
Removed the ability to roll the minify spell and replaced it with the teleport spell with one charge (Thanks Lizard of Oz)
Added extensions to the window frames looking through each opposing team's base and made the raised shacks slightly more symmetrical to block Sniper sightline
Removed the two spell books from just outside of the doors of each base
Increased the respawn time of the rare spell book slightly
Added Gargoyle spawns
Fixed a number of minor visual issues and clipping bugs (Thanks Lilly, The Rat Man, Dr. Maxi, and everyone else who reported these!)

This map would be infinitely better without spells or if everyone got a spell when the Intel was capped. Having them just out everywhere means I'm getting blasted by insta kill fireballs and eyeball rockets outside my spawn room constantly.

The config thing is literally just a suggestion to try, I'm collecting data about what is working and what isn't. If it's something *everyone* has to do to improve FPS, I will update the map to accomadate. I can only do so much ahead of time when I'm getting maybe 100ish people helping test maps and suddenly it's exposed to 100k+. There's variables I can't account for at scale.

Suggesting config tweaks to help FPS is extremely common. So far I haven't heard of FPS issues being a super widespread issue on the map but I'm looking into some tweaks to improve it.

Lots of people enjoy a refresh of a familiar map. They aren't for everyone, and I question doing so many in the same update because it'll burn people out on them, but they aren't universally disliked. This map is currently sitting at a 95% approval rating here, and this map is from before the random map botting started. You'll likely say that vote doesn't matter, but it's higher than a lot of my unique maps.

The trains on the upper bridge is an odd choice, still. Why do we players have to fiddle with our graphic configs just for ONE map to be playable, at some point optimization should be the map creator's responsibility. It doesn't gel with your vision? Either find a workaround or change course, don't steer forward on something that's not working.

People are going to complain about reskins by their very nature of being reskins. Also no one asks for these.

Then don't post it on the workshop for Valve to add to the game. You've had maps that were added before, clearly they trust you enough to add your stuff in without question so forgive me if I don't buy the excuse of "well I didn't expect Valve to pick this undercooked map so it's not my fault for leaving it on the workshop for my convenience."

this is extremely bad I'm sorry, every match is a spawncamp fest because the attacking team gets a rare spell that nukes the whole spawnroom. AND the Mini spell to just run past everything and get the intel, making everything pointless.

did we really need 3 doublecrosses?

I knew the speed capping with that specific spell was possible, you are limited though in that there is only one rare spell on the map, and you aren't always going to roll that exact spell. Meaning it's somewhat rare for everything to fall into place to line that kind of run up, which I feel makes it fall into an acceptable scenario, imo.

I'm still likely playing with the spawn rate of the rare spell, I already bumped it up a bit from the workshop version, I can always raise it more if it feels too problematic.

I'd likely need to utilize some vscript if I wanted to affect the pickup ability with spells, in the future. It's not entirely out of the question though if it feels like it needs it.

My only criticism is that when you have the briefcase, you can't use spells or pick up the briefcase if you have an active spell. Other than that, all good

It's a 50/50 chance to do either, it's harder to notice the lower one if you aren't down there, though

I responded to the thread, but to put it here as well, the map does rely on particle effects heavily to achieve the look, but I flagged most as weather effects. If you're experiencing FPS issues, that would be the first thing I would recommend turning off to see if it helps. No matter what, I *added* to Doublecross so it's going to be a little worse, but that should put a big dent in it.

I love the detail of the barrels can ignite arrows, more mappers should add things like that to their maps. Is a blessing for huntsman players.

Have you thought on adding fire balls raining from the sky? Like what happens in Cauldron sometimes.

It's mostly to just add a bit of fun and continue the fiery aesthetic to that area which is otherwise isolated from the rest of the map. There are barrels you can jump across, and honestly most of the time flag runners seem to rarely even touch that part of the floor. Especially when you consider the addition of spells to the map that add mobility options to classes, I figured it would be a good way to balance it slightly more, making it a little more hazardous.

Good stuff. I'm just a bit mystified why the flank into the intel room has a hurt trigger. Like I understand it visually but I just wonder how it'd affect gameplay.
