This was a wonderful scenario....but iIgot an unexpected derailment just entering the loog-track in Truckee.... therefore no succsessful finish...

The start of #3 is gonna be a bit more laid back, with no stopping on inclines required for one thing. x3

Well this attempt went well! (My Challenger is cursed with random glitches) Very nicely done! More than 50 miles I think as well as lots of switching and maneuvering. Much more than your 'drive from point A to point B' scenario. Looking forward to the next part.

If it was fun now, I can only imagine people will love it even more when I put together version two of it with some actual AI passenger Amtraks so you don't feel completely 'alone' during the run. ^^ Waiting to see if major fixing to Donner Pass actually happens first though.

This was a excellent run!!!! I loved it, great challenge, so happy to use steam engines!!! Thank you linuxportal. I hope you continue to create more

Start putting on the normal train brake and loco/independant brake when you've got less than 10 mph to go in stopping, so that the normal brakes do the last work of getting you halted. You'll come to a stop and won't move any further as long as you don't release them, so the game will register the stopping attempt successful.
NoahBlueRidge  [作者] 2014 年 8 月 27 日 下午 5:45
Were you trying to stop with only the reverser, or did you actually use the normal train brake? You have to use the normal train brake for full stops. Using the reverser you'll start moving in the other direction a little even before you get the normal brakes on and the game will register that as a failure.

stopped at the right places but still got crosses ,why
still enjoyed it,

Also, don't think I've forgotten about doing a third scenario in this series. Learning AI programming is what's holding up #3 in the series, and getting AI Amtraks fully running. That's inbetween a normal day job and having actual real life obligations. XD

Using RW_Tools to swap out the steamers for diesels? Still though, how about the Truckee switching. It took me LOADS of testing to finally work out the sequence of it, but ain't it rewarding to finish it and finally get going to Sparks?
rockymtdoc 2014 年 8 月 27 日 上午 8:39
I've been doing this with diesels for some time now, especially when switching.

You gotta keep things within reason though, as too much opposing reverser at too high a speed for real would either cause major, major damage to the locomotive or will heave the engineer out the window when the reverser lever starts jerking back and forth. You generally want to limit opposing reverser to about what you limit it to at normal speed, for realism purposes, so downgrade you'll still need to put a few pounds of air in the train brakes, but not quite as much when countersteam braking or using opposite reverser.

I generally put the reverser at no more than 15% the opposing direction for braking when travelling faster than 20 mph, and limit it to 30% opposing direction at 10-20 mph. Below 10 mph, you can put it down in the 'opposite' corner if you want and not even use the brakes when changing directions. Do still need the normal train brakes for precise stops when the task list calls for them though.

yeah, linuxportal, i only recently learned that since steamers don't have any direct linkage between boiler and wheels, you can just throw them into reverse and control your downhill speed with the throttle

Lemme warn everybody, there are no AI trains in this scenario because I have yet to learn how to program them. This is only the second scenario I've ever made and I have a lot going on so I gotta be careful with how I use my time to learn to program AI trains.
