@Nobody No-One The colossal size was partially induced by the fact that I wanted this map to retain some of the character of the original PeTI version that I made long ago - this meant that some mildly unnecessary regions were either introduced or exacerbated to match the original layout. The entrance area, for example, probably doesn't strictly need that long grating floor, but this is similar to a structure in the original map. You can look at the original to see what I mean.
@| \_/ () I remember noticing that when I was testing - very strange indeed!
Also, why do I (re)spawn facing the wall? That was weird :D
Once again a great logical map and beautiful design
I'm looking forward to the challenge and progress! (For science! xD)
Practice does make perfect! I hope you weren't too intimidated by the difficulty rating - everything can get squashed down by how high the complexity ceiling for these puzzles can get. As a light warning, most of my other (modern) puzzles are (probably) tougher than this one, but my earlier ones shouldn't be as complex and there are plenty of other places to build up skill in a fun way!
This is a very cool test-chamber. I'm not too skilled, so for me the difficulty was more like 6/10 to 8/10, so I guess I'll just practice with your other test-chambers. :)
The laser-player goes around, loses their portals, helps the funnel-player to the laser-emitter, sets the laser portal, goes to the laser-elevator and then the funnel-player disrupts the laser with the cube to lower the elevator-platform temporarily!
Thank you very much, confirming the laser-player's next step was to abandon their post and help the funnel-player. That was the critical part I didn't think of!
Also, I had the idea of using the cube to disrupt the beam earlier, but I discarded that thought after noticing the beam is too high up to just put it in the way .
I hope I didn't just ramble something that won't work, because I couldn't test it so far (and don't want to spoil my fun by watching the solution-video just yet).
You're doing awesome fanservice here, thanks a lot!
Here's a hint: So far you've made some good deductions! The question you're asking at the end is a critical one. Indeed, tasking the funnel-player with placing the cube on the shelf, getting a portal on the funnel source, and standing at the laser emitter seems like just too much work for one person to achieve alone...
In particular, the laser-player is going to have to return all the way around to help the funnel-player get into position. But what comes down must go up, and the laser-player will need to return to the upper area once more to execute your end plan. But how could you achieve this without burning all four portals around the laser emitter like the first time?
If my hints are too obtuse, I've also attached a solution video to peek at if you like. Good luck!
We can get the cube on the shelf and the laser-guy up in the glass-box, but we cannot get the funnel-guy out of there without using their portals, ruining the setup.
In my latest idea the laser-guy makes a portal directed at the button so that the funnel-guy can walk through, place their second portal (where the funnel shall come out) if it has been used and get it replaced by the laser-guy to close the funnel-portal. The laser-guy can then activate the laser and once both players stand on the elevator, the funnel-guy set their last portal to direct the funnel at the cube, which has been lifted from the shelf and floats towards the button.
But how do we get the funnel-guy from the cube-drop-button-platform to the laser-emitter?
(Also, please apologize my spam. I have to split it in two comments due to steam-community-post-comment-restrictions.)
In the end, we need to stand on the elevator and then hold down that button, so we think we need one person to have a closed portal (null-portal) ready for the funnel to pass through and the other person needs to have placed their portals keeping the funnel active. That means we need to put the cube ready in front of the funnel-portal, as we can't place it in the funnel while standing on the exit-elevator.
@ChaosNe0 Thank you for playing! I'm glad you've been enjoying it - it's certainly tricky! I would love to provide some hints, but I would need you to tell me ( in spoiler tags ) where you are in the puzzle. What has your thought process been so far? Is there anything you're stuck on in particular? Are there any strategies you've been trying that don't seem to be working?
