basically a country with nested subjects joining a customs union does all kinds of weird things to their subject's subjects. most of this i've seen with the dutch east indies where Netherlands joins a british customs union and all of DEI's puppets are set free. however i just got a weirder one where i was a protectorate under Britain and when Netherlands joined the custom union i got changed into a protectorate of DEI.

Also yes, I reduced the ships to market to the minimum which dosen't crash the game. This is to reduce the negative effect of joining the trade union as a great power. Could be better balanced later. I don't think this can be turned off.
