But when now when I load saves with this on, it doesn't work?
Is this a issue with a Gmod update? Or something I'm just not understanding?
I don't know what's causing this, when I have the new version in my addons folder it works just fine, but the workshop version indeed won't show up. I am terribly sorry for the trouble I've caused you and I'm really grateful you informed me!
If it still causes problems, then try a different Gmod branch (like Chromium or normal)

Nice to hear you've had a look into it, suprised that its as few as 2,500 dots, it looks alot more. Thanks.
Make sure all other addons are disabled and that you have no local addons installed (aka. normal / manually installed folders in the addons folder that aren't the gma files). LIDAR can be very sensitive towards them.
Also, some alternate LIDAR mods do not change the names of certain file locations, making them override each other, that's why you should also disable them.
Nothing shows up except maybe some rectangles, LIDAR gun scans only create dots on very specific surfaces. I can enter any map and only very few surfaces are being scanned. The ground I walk on doesn't get dotted, making the mod completely useless and unplayable.
I'm using the experimental x64 branch of gmod, which I think is causing all this, but come on dude, can I not play this with 64-bit gmod?
Currently, the default amount set is 2500 dots.
After a long time scanning, previous dots will be erased, I'd like to prevent this.
I've made serveral attempts at this, and I was able to write color and location into a txt file, however the performance was miserable - I suspected I might have put the fileWrite function into the wrong place, but I couldn't fix it.
I won't include it as it lags the game extremely and is crash prone as well, the amount of coordinates recorded as just too extreme.
Also I don't have any experience in programming LUA/Gmod (I'm pretty much a script kiddie hahah) so I wouldn't know how to achieve that
