I second the idea of Czaele to see if there is some way to keep the chests locked or otherwise help limit access until after the player reaches a certain level. That would be ideal...

I wonder if you'd be able to *lock* the chests in a way that keeps them locked until a chunk of the story has been completed or until the player hits a certain level, though I don't know if the burglary lockpicking skill would bypass that or not.

Thanks, I agree about the token thing to offset the early availability, sadly I don't believe it's possible at the moment, I had in mind that people would do this after they had completed all there is to do in the game

Feels pretty iffy that they're so OP, it makes any new character absolutely wreck anything if you know where any of the stuff is beforehand or if you're lucky, though that's more a problem caused by Gedonia not having level requirements.

IMO, a way to balance this within the game's current engine would be something like having each chest give some kind of currency, a token that you have to take to a mod-added shop in one of the higher level zones (or maybe just Ertoron, for simplicity's sake) to trade in, so at the very least you're not giving a 40-atk dagger to a brand new character.

Also, "unorthodox places" isn't quite right, all of the ones I've found so far (minus the dagger) aren't in unorthodox places, they're just jammed behind or under something in a way where you have to get lucky to stand in the correct angle to see them.
