With the way this was modded, and when this was done, there was no way to accurately aim at a specific range (it'd require scripts which back then weren't that advanced)

Simply because the script Jay made is for prone, not for crouch. I don't know if there's a way to check for crouch in the game parameters

I wonder why you need to only prone to fire this weapon because it can well be also very simply fired while crouching.

It's prefered targets are set to "infantry group" and light vehicles

"The Type 89 was a light mortar designed to be carried and fired from a prone position (so you need to crawl to use it in game)"
(From the description of the mod). Also i hope that the images show it, because in the ones standing up the mortar is not on "fire" position, it's only in the images where you're crawling

Aim up and down, the muzzle is angled so angling your camera alters the range, although there's a maximum of around 100 meters

Is there any way we could get an adjustable range? Not by much, but I would like to choose more than "Click and see where it lands", No offense, It's a great mod, but I was just wondering if that could be something to see in the future?
