The Type 89 was a light mortar designed to be carried and fired from a prone position (so you need to crawl to use it in game), serving on the same role as a light machine gun, and having longer range than hand thrown grenades

With the way this was modded, and when this was done, there was no way to accurately aim at a specific range (it'd require scripts which back then weren't that advanced)

could we maybe get an arcade version that allows shooting while not prone? bots are able to shoot without proning anyway

Simply because the script Jay made is for prone, not for crouch. I don't know if there's a way to check for crouch in the game parameters

I wonder why you need to only prone to fire this weapon because it can well be also very simply fired while crouching.

It's prefered targets are set to "infantry group" and light vehicles

The bots seem to prefer using this against vehicles rather than against infantry
