Is VIET compatible with X mod?
Yes. VIET is technically compatible with everything, even total conversion overhauls as I do not edit any vanilla code. If you're using a conversion mod, make sure to check the Universe game rule - these options disable some events that don't make sense for certain settings (for instance, an event referring to China wouldn't make sense in the Elder Kings mod, while a event that talks about Charlemagne wouldn't make sense for the Bronze Age mod).

@Pilatian It is intended to gameplay-wise be like a harm event, but it's pretty rare (I've never gotten it naturally in all my years of playtesting) so that's not much an issue to me since it's meant to be a memorable one off thing rather than a dedicated "system" the player has to deal with on a consistent basis without input like the harm events. Anyhow, I skimmed through some code and discover there is a way to trigger something based on whether they have a trait granting immortality or not, and I think I can just put a check for it to not trigger when you're playing Realms in Exile and have elven heritage.

@FyrFly It should be okay, yeah, since I didn't really need to update anything. If on the off chance you encounter any issues, you can use the manual install version off of GitHub (see the top of the comments for the link) and download and install an older version of the mod from 1.16. However, make sure to unsubscribe from the Steam version if you do that so there's only one version of the mod running. I doubt you'll have to do the manual install version but I'll just mention it just in case.

@Pilatian I don't think it makes sense to disable it for TCs wholescale since a lot of characters would still qualify, both for fantasy and non-fantasy TCs, but I'll see if I can find other ways to disable it for those kinds of characters. I've made a note to look into that in my notes.

@FTX Which language are you using? Some languages will default to English as placeholders, but other languages will require sub-mods, per the requests of the translators. Please see the section in the description above on languages to see if your language requires a translation sub-mod.

@Crismac Thanks! On the modding end this appears to have been a relatively unintrusive update for us, but obviously one should still exercise some caution for any mods that are not officially updated yet, just in case because you never know.

@Purple Regrets: Load order usually shouldn't be an issue with VIET, unless you're using a translation submod or some other kind of submod, then obviously those should be after VIET. However be sure to read other mods' descriptions just in case they indicate VIET should be placed somewhere, I don't keep up with every mod out there.

@sugar_beard Theoretically it's possible sometimes for RNG to have events happen in close succession like that. Are you using any other mods, or just VIET?

@HazDev56 Try running with only VIET and no other mods, not even minor cosmetic mods, and seeing if that issue still happens.

@Insmarechale Most total conversion mods should work fine, though I have heard a few have issues like Realms in Exile. If you're using this with a TC, make sure to use the correct game rule in the setting for the universe (see pic in the screenshot in case you don't know which one)

@Ruthydufy VIET does not touch anything related to character appearance. However, do note mods can change historical characters' default appearance if those characters' faces have not been defined since they're randomized (which is the case for 99.99% of historical characters). Every time you tack on mods, especially mods that have a lot of code, there's a good chance it'll change the random seed RNG for historical characters' appearances, even though these mods might not touch anything related to graphics. There's really nothing I can do about it since it's not a bug per se and more just a quirk of how the game works.

Love the mod, but I don’t understand why this mod touched the appearance of most characters. The new appearances just make everyone look even more generic, which completely goes against a mod like EPE are trying to fix. Kinda makes using EPE pointless with this mod on...

Thank you for answer, I discovered it was actually a vanilla event file that caused a big old heresy problem all over the planet, deleting the file completely was the solution, all is well in my kingdom now :) and your events add some nice color to it.

@Wally I cannot guarantee that it would work with mods that reduce portions of the map, however if they do not mess too much with vanilla geographical regions (for instance just leaving them as empty placeholders) then I think it should be okay. Quickly checking my code, the only titles I refer to are the Roman Empire and Byzantium.

For performance, from my experience VIET tends to not have a huge performance hit since it's mostly just one off events that only happen to count tier rulers and above. If you're playing with a lot of mods, that in and of itself could be a reason for performance problems depending on what mods you're using.

Does this work with mods like Even Smaller World Map? I know some mods might error because they will remove portions of the map.

Also does this kill performance? I have played with this before and performance was poor but it might have been a diff mod.

Is the Crow Lord event from this mod? It's the event chain that decides to feed the crows. It's been a long time since I refreshed it. I'm refreshing it recently, but I'm not sure if it's the content here.
