The U.S. flag for divisions is a bit blurry and ends up looking like the ROC flag. I don't have any other mods installed other than yours. Everything else looks great tho, and runs perfectly

Do note the black-gold-red flag is a REPUBLICAN/anti-monarchist flag - from both the 1848 and 1919 revolutions, then post-1945 again.

If you have a mod that restores a constitutional monarchy in Germany, keeping the imperial red-white-black flag is actually more historically accurate.

I get you, but "people" also like to have the Rising Sun flag of the Imperial Japanese Navy as the flag of Japan, even though that is grossly ahistorical and completely nonsensical.

I assume you refer to the Austro-Hungarian civil ensign as the alternative. It was flown in consulates and merchant ships, and nobody considered it a "national flag". Thank God Wikipedia no longer uses it after almost two decades impressing the wrong idea on millenials.

I would do the toggle if I could, but unfortunately it would break mods. What I can do is teach you how to replace just these flags on your own mod folder.

Are you using this mod? I ask because other mods add a different flag (more often a "war flag") for divisions.

That's absolutely correct. This mod uses state flags rather than war flags as a basis.

I can answer that. The rising sun flag was a war flag. It was sticked to ships and planes. The flag for the Empire of Japan was white with a red sun in the middle, just like today's flag.

I didn't see anyone asking this in the comments, so maybe I'm missing something entirely, but why does the Japanese not have the flag of the rising sun here?

I agree with @donald.grape , i think it would be nice to have like separate mod that would have flags from the modern era, but for me like the timeframe would be 1967 to 1991 something like that.

I have a request. Could you make a separate mod called "Modern Day Flags" or whatever you like. The idea is to give every in-game nation a flag that that specific country would have this day. The same flag for every ideology, so even if China turns democratic, it would keep its old flag. This is of course an ahistorical mod. Would you consider making a mod like this?

@ScoutInvictus You mean the CSA that shows as part of the Honor the Confederacy decisions? It is intended. The American flag is used because the fascist regime, while honoring the Confederacy, doesn't actually become it anywhere in text. And imagine Douglas MacArthur or Charles Lindbherg forsaking the old Stars and Stripes! Can't imagine it.

The CSA flag only shows up as the Confederate States flag in the communist civil war, as that is actually a seccessionist state covering the same area as the old CSA.

I can't seem to get the Confederate flag to appear after forming the C.S.A. as America. The standard flag for fascist United States remains. I do see in the thumbnail the last edition of the C.S.A. flag, so I know it must be there. Any solution? Thanks.

I don't think so, but it's super easy to add a localisation file changing just these two. I will explain more in a later occasion, but the HOI4 Wiki's entry on "Localisation" helps a lot.

You will always have a hard time adapting 1940s ideologies to a 21st century setting. Maybe change the systems entirely?

Unfortunately, in HoI you have limited options. I use Freedom House as a basis and decided on the following rules:
Free - Democratic
Partly-free - Non-aligned
Not free - Fascist (or Communist, but there are only 5 countries that fit)
Of course I know that fascist is not authoritarian. But what alternative would you have? Russia is portrayed as not free by FH, so I made it fascist.

You shouldn't treat fascism as synonym to dictatorship. It is a far right-wing form of it.

Fascism, communism, and non-aligned all represent authoritarian regimes. HOI4 represents countries such as modern Russia as "Non-Aligned, Authoritarian Regime, Elections Allowed". Like Yugoslavia in-game IIRC. Freedom House wouldn't call Russia "fascist".

Maybe the Modern Day Mod has some cool flags for you, closer to the time period of your mod. Habe you checked theirs?

I am impartial. The current flag has historical basis on the Russian Fascist Party. The old Imperial flag could work nicely too.

If your scenario is based on modern day, why are you bothered about the fascist flag? Russia should be democratic or non-aligned.

The flag you gave us was used only for a small period of time.
It ruins immersion because it looks nothing like the modern day flag and my scenario is based in the modern day. I'm using a lot of mods to create a world like this, including a few of your mods. I'm basically making "Modern Day" mod with the vanilla game.

Could you make the flag of fascist Russia look like the modern one, except with something like a... swastika on it? The thing is, I'm trying to recreate a modern world using some mods and some of the flags ruin the immersion.

I see. Konrad Adenauer always leads Democratic Germany, but when monarchist it has Wilhelm III as a national spirit. When a republic it lacks the spirit.

In my game, I chose a custom setting to make Germany go down the democratic path, so it did Oppose Hitler and had the civil war. However, Wilhelm III wasn't the leader; Konrad Adenauer was.

Since Democratic Germany under Wilhem III is a monarchy, using the monarchy flag (rather than the Republican Weimar flag) made the most sense to me.

However should Germany become Democratic by virtue of peace conferences or coups, it is a republic and *should* have the black, red and yellow flag. Which case popped up in your game?

Neat mod. I have noticed that democratic Germany's flag remains the same as the German Empire's (and/or the German Military Junta) even after turning democratic. Shouldn't it be black, red, and yellow?

I don't like the idea of having war flags showing up in place of divisions, because they also show up elsewhere in places where the context (e.g. diplomacy or trade) wouldn't make sense.

So I applied the State flag for everything.
