Spinblocks just confused the hell out of me.
I think i can make rather durable wings if i spinblock it too alongside the missles. am not great with mimics so i tend to use blocks for looks XD. I'll prob use this aircraft to see how it was made and learn! so thanks!

2 recommendations. 1.) Don't worry about durability, worry about speed and maneuver. This isn’t durable either. I don’t think planes should be. If a real F-18 gets hit with a missile does it keep trucking? No, probably not. Just put Engine upon engine on spin blocks, try to go faster than 200 M/s, and also make sure she turns tight and has counter measures. With that you can defeat most of the incoming missiles/missile warning. Avoid drag by putting missile pods on spin blocks...for more speed.

2.) Make sure it’s balanced. When you build it out build it with a stick in its center and don’t let it tip off that stick. Every time you add something, test flight it to make sure it balances right before moving into the next thing. This one actually is a little heavier in the back, but I don’t mind because it helps it climb and maneuver in a bank.

am super bad at making planes. I keep trying to make them durable and then they arnt really planes...at that point..more like hovering small gunships

Thanks man, I appreciate that. In a few more weeks I will have completed a years worth of work on a Seawolf Class Submarine, which is semi-based off of real specs and cross sections from the USS Connecticut. I’m even more proud of that than this F18. The sub will have every gauge and indicator in its control and engine room for you to never need to leave the first person or view the game’s HUD. I’ll release a link of it here when it’s done.

Are there any tutorials for any of the stuff you did in the cockpit... the displays, audio call outs and scripts to make the run etc.. That's really impressive stuff in this thing.

@MOSOTO - thanks man. Stay tuned for the Seawolf class submarine on its way. When it’s finished you should be able to do combat underwater without ever leaving the first person, using the HUD or looking anywhere outside of the hull of the submarine.

As for the speed... yeah making a jet in this game that you can sit in, carries a combat load and has like avionics in it and stuff ... it’s hard to get something large like that to go more than 200. Evecdivinity has made some really lifelike jets and missiles that push 300 by putting blade on spin blacks, butyou cane really fly those.... however they’re some of the fastest things I’ve seen in this game and enemy missiles basically cane catch up woth them.

@Amber Dragonlord aircraft never reach their top speed. the F-18 cruises at 800 kph or so with full load.

The crazy thing is that the real F/A 18 has a top speed of 1,915 kilometers an hour, compared to 612 for this one, and yet its still so fast in game. Hard to show those speeds in most video games though.

@Black Hat - It’s top speed is 170 m/s with afterburners, and 135m/s without afterburners. And the way you get those kinds of speeds is by using wedges and spin blacks for the weapons stations to reduce drag, and by stacking jet engines on Top of jet engines with spin blocks.

@Evil Dodge - I think your sentence means ‘not realistic enough’. I’ll try harder next time.

@Babylon-7. I tried to use LUA, but I just can’t figure out how those damn things work. I pasted a box from somewhere else, tested it on a missile platform and it worked. Then I pasted that platform and the LUA onto the aircraft wing and it didn’t work anymore.

Actually I’d love input and recommendations. LUA boxes and breadboards are two things I can’t understand. Thanks all, forgot to mention the weapons officer's back seat controls the deployment of chaff by pressing K.

In my next build my goal is to have the instrumentation handle every aspect of what the user wants to know. So a real working radar with enemy heading and range, as well as instruments that display your speed, and altitude. You should be able to press F9 and see no FtD game Hud and fly without ever needing to leave the first person view.
