Highly Realistic FA-18 Super Hornet

描述
Please refer to directions. This is highly advanced, and requires player input.

This is a realistic working F-18 that features a lighting POD, laser designator, and cockpit displays/instrumentation. It features the very latest release capability in FtD technology, to include ACB and Video controllers in the cockpit and afterburners. Its use of hologram projectors for instrumentation purposes is unprecedented. It is specifically designed to fly across Neter, take out Spirals, Falcons and Gannetts, and proceed to an attack mission with devastating effect before returning back for landing.

All flaps and ailerons operate, as does the canopy and landing gear. Displays feature BINGO FUEL alert when you drop below 20%, afterburner engagement and incoming missile alert.

It also has a fully operational TCAS system which audibly alerts you to your 50, 30 and 10 meter altititude (very helpful for landing), and a terrain warning.

Audible beeping sounds warn you of approaching projectiles, and when you get target tone, as well as a total system failure master caution alarm if you are hit and loose engine power.

The working HUD tracks enemy movement, range, your pitch and roll.
BUTTONS:
5 - Unfolds the wings and brings canopy down. You will hear the auxillary power unit come on when you press this as well... just sounds cool.

6 - Folds wings and brings canopy up (try to avoid pressing in flight).

7 - Drops the landing gear. Do not touch ground until you see the ladning gear designation on the left side of the cockpit display, this means the rear gear have dropped and are in place. Hold 7 down to extend the tailhook (makes for a good break). You will hear ATC landing procedures when you press 7.

8 - Retracts the landing gear. Press only after take off.

9 - Releases flares. Press this immediately if you hear rapid beeping and/or see a red "INCOMING MISSILE" alert on the cockpit display.

Take off instructions.
1.) test flaps, controls (u,j,k,h... yaw is i and y)
2.) press '5'
3.) give 5-8% power by tapping 'T'
4.) at approximately 40 m/s the aircraft will naturally lift off
5.) bring gear in by pressing 8.
6.) full throttle up by holding T to 100% and achieve up to 170 m/s with 'o' for afterburners (uses a lot of fuel).

To flip on auto pilot look left and press blue button. Top button will activate your lighting pod on the left wing... the lightning pod will track enemy targets. You can control the channel (you have a nose camera and a lighting pod camera), as well as zoom with board to your right. The video screen will appear when you come into engagement range with enemy. If the screen isn't present you're too far away for any of your weapon systems to work.

WEAPONS:
slot 1 - 30 mm nose cannon with tracers.. lots of fun to get behind aircraft and rip the engine out.

slot 2 - x2 AIM 9 sidewinders. Only fire when you're behind the enemy aircraft, when you have missile tone, and when the aircraft is in the green HUD box. If it's fuselage is extending outside the green box your range is too close for missiles.... switch to guns (slot 1).

slot 3 - x6 nasty little anti aircraft missiles that frankly can be fired without tone and probably have pretty good effects. But you must be at close, visual range.

slot 4 - x2 AMRAM long range missiles. Activate the Lightning POD, put the nose on target with a "target lock" designation and fire as soon as the camera appears in the cockpit (that's how you know you're in range for an AMRAM shot).

slot 5 - 3 x4 GBU38 JDAM - Radar guided, high explosive ordinance with rocket thruster for increased damage. It is designed to rip open reinforced decking or take out ground targets. Achieve tone on target before firing. Once they're off the rails you can peel away to fire and forget. I recommend you keep the target on your left wing to watch the effects on the Lightning POD. Tons of fun to watch bombs hit on the lighting POD screen. There is also a connected laser designation system if you choose to change the ordinance.

Presence of enemy aircraft will flip on a 1980's recording of two F-14 tomcat crews shooting down Libyan Migs... it really adds to the ambiance.

Always press 9 to to release flares the moment you hear rapid beeping.

LANDING PROCEDURES:
1.) Turn off afterburners by pressing O and L at the same time.
2.) Press 7, and observe the presence of the landing 'gear down' designator on the left side of cockpit.
3.) Look left and press red missile button to switch off all Autopilot mainframe functions. DO NOT LAND WITH AUTOPOLIT ON.
4.) Bring main throttle to 35% and line up on flat ground for descent.
5.) gradually throttle down 5% at a time. At about 15% throttle you will feel the aircraft loose altitude.
6.) When the TCAS gives you a "50" alert, gently flare your nose up about 2 degrees and bring your thottle to 8%... about 5 seconds should elapse before you get your "30" alert and another 5 before "10"... if you drop too quickly (less than 5 seconds) it cold be a rough landing.
7.) At the 30 meter warning bring your throttle down to 2-5% Once you touch ground, shut engines off with a simultaneous T&G command.
8.) Press 6 to open canopy and get out.

Thanks for the tips!
Spinblocks just confused the hell out of me.
I think i can make rather durable wings if i spinblock it too alongside the missles. am not great with mimics so i tend to use blocks for looks XD. I'll prob use this aircraft to see how it was made and learn! so thanks!

2 recommendations. 1.) Don't worry about durability, worry about speed and maneuver. This isn’t durable either. I don’t think planes should be. If a real F-18 gets hit with a missile does it keep trucking? No, probably not. Just put Engine upon engine on spin blocks, try to go faster than 200 M/s, and also make sure she turns tight and has counter measures. With that you can defeat most of the incoming missiles/missile warning. Avoid drag by putting missile pods on spin blocks...for more speed.

2.) Make sure it’s balanced. When you build it out build it with a stick in its center and don’t let it tip off that stick. Every time you add something, test flight it to make sure it balances right before moving into the next thing. This one actually is a little heavier in the back, but I don’t mind because it helps it climb and maneuver in a bank.

am super bad at making planes. I keep trying to make them durable and then they arnt really planes...at that point..more like hovering small gunships

This is excellent. Looking forward to the sub if its the same calibre as this. Phenomenal

Thanks man, I appreciate that. In a few more weeks I will have completed a years worth of work on a Seawolf Class Submarine, which is semi-based off of real specs and cross sections from the USS Connecticut. I’m even more proud of that than this F18. The sub will have every gauge and indicator in its control and engine room for you to never need to leave the first person or view the game’s HUD. I’ll release a link of it here when it’s done.
