it is like a lot of ships the mother ship in homeworld is very nearly and exact fit to this and I actually thought it was a capital vessel, before I read the stats
it's a design that is through out sci fi adventures. Very excellent work, you did a good job..

Cardinal, I am old enough to have seen the first issue of Heavy Metal magazine on the stands and I have seen plenty of ships in there and in other sci-fi drawings that could have easily inspired your design, but none would cause me to think you copied yours and that guy owes you an apology for his assumption. Never ass|u|me anything about anyone.

I love the design. One problem I found is that if an enemy knows the blueprint for this, he only needs three good rocket hits to take out the core. The good part is that there is enough space and redundancy built in, that a quick thinking pilot can place another core and possibly get away to do repairs. In my case, I simply moved the core to a different location to start with and beefed up the armor around it.:steamhappy:

The weapons I don't think I can much about, but for the ammo boxes and core, I can potentially change, can you tell me what you mean by too exposed? Do you mean I need to armor up those sections more?

You made a very nice job!

The shape would fit perfectly to Minbari Style from Babylon 5.

Although your Armatis can take some hits because of the mass of devices, this ship is very limited in PvP because there exist no T2 RCS for SVs. This fact will make it unfortunately a big clumsy dart board.

The core, weapons and ammo boxes are way to exposed and 2 hits on the sides at the same spot from an opposed SV can be devastating, even more when hit from a CV in Space.

Actually, a lot of people's expectations regarding pvp are less than correct. In the case of pvp, I find that the shuttered glass placed behind the tinted glass offers substantial protection, so long as the overall cockpit area is small compared to the size of the ship. I would not term all of the pvp designs as ugly, and I have recently seen a well-designed class 2 corvette hold up well in pvp against a much bulkier cube. The key to that sort of thing is mobility, of course.

That said, mobility is an issue here, due to the tracking missiles. While a little tiny zipper might rarely get hit by them, this thing is likely to take some damage. I've spent a lot of time figuring out how to jam the best mobility into virtually any shape, so i'm sure it would be possible with this thing, too.

@Cardinal. Please Don't. If it worthy for a fight it must be ugly. :D or at least no cockpit windows..and 5-6 layers of armor so most likely no nice sleek shapes unfortunatelly.
This ship of your is gorgeous. Shame the game preffers combatbricks if you wann feel yourself safe. :D

Looks a lot like the old Helwyr, but is much bigger. Unfortunately, due to flight orientations, these designs can be a little awkward to fly due to visual limitations.

Handles much better. I still dont like its up/down movement, but that has more to do wht the shape of teh ship. I like the door entry better, also those shutter doors have more armor than the sliding ones (which sucks). If the devs would make the sliding doors so that they only opened into one block, not one and a 1/3rd, they would be more useful. How stuff like that gets beyond the artist and into production is beyond me. I call it laziness or a lack of attention to detail.

Something else. The best block to use to help with lag shots is the pyramid block. It also has the lowest poly count of all the blocks, so you can reduce ship class and increase its durability by using pyramid blocks for layered armor. I had a builder friend teach me that. If you go into god mode and fly around in your ship, the areas where you see nothing is all cube blocks touching each other. Those are prime gateways for lag shots. Pyramid blocks helps to stop that wihtout increasing poly count like the 6 way connector block.

Keep up the good work! Very cool ship, although I cant shake the feeling of flying a goldfish when I fly it in third person :P

Ok I have updated the ship, please check the ship again and see if you like the small differences. If you don't like something, give a suggestion and tell me why it should be different.

@Pyston, your suggestions have improved the ship. As for the thrusters, I crammed in a bunch of 1x3x1's, so until an update requires me to change the thruster positions, I will keep it this way just to have the current advantages.

Anyone find a way to make this thing land on a planet? On my server CV's are rarely allowed to land on planets so most of my combat is from sv's. Just trying to find a way to land this thing has been difficult. I want this thing to work because it looks so cool. Also removing the 4 big thrusters and putting a bunch of 1x3x1 thrusters fixed the strafing issue i was having.

Ultimately I wish we could have a "build your own thruster" block set so we did not have to cram in so many to make things fly.

Cardinal. I am not sure of the exact rules, but I believe you can bury thrusters in a chamber as long as there are 5 blocks of empty space in front of the thrust (where the plume is) and at least 1 block that is open to "space". I started outfitting your ship with 1x3x1 thusters instead of the giant ones (the 1x3x1 are the best thrust per block space). You can cram more of them in and get better results. All the empty space around the side firing thrust I placed RCS. I had about 500 RCS in the ship before I stopped messing with it. It handed a LOT better, but the height of th ship will never allow it to be a maneuvering machine. The best ship shape is something that would essentially take up most of the space inside a circle, or even a sphere.

or turn the exterior door around so it opens inside, and place the other door in the inside against the exterior door...but then you will need some interior blocks to cover it (thin ones would work).

Your ship is easily salvagable to quell the critique against it, just needs some reworking. I cant stress removing the giant thrusters enough though. Go 1x3x1. The only time I would go larger is if I was trying to reduce prop count to get the ship to a class 4-5. Most multiplayer servers do not allow over classs 5 constructs.

Ok, gathering from your responses...

1. Remove some drop pods and replace with RCS
2. Fix the clipping of the doors on the sides.
3. Plan for future update on thrusters. (VERY HARD TO FIX)

Got to say looks cool but functions poorly. Very slow and can't strafe. I took out most of those passenger seats when you first enter from bottom and added about 150 more rcs. Controlled much better but still very slow. Just can't strafe. Looks cool though.

Cool looking ship! It will not be functional however when the devs release the patch that makes it so that thrusters must be exposed/not buried.

Also needs a ton more RCS. I spawned the ship and added 100 RCS and it flew much better, althoguh my version looked ugly with 100 RCS attached to the back of the ship.

I would also re-engineer how the doors work on picture 9. Nothing annoys me more in game than seeing a sliding door open outside of the blocks.

Aesthetically I give the ship a 9/10
Functionally, sadly I would have to give it a 2/10

If you can resolve the thrusters, the door and the handing, I think this ship could be amazing!
