I'm working on a mod to allow the player to choose their own ship, regardless of their race. Since the vanilla Avian ship is... we'll go with "polarizing", I'd like to include the T8 version of this ship as a more palatable option for the birdmen.

While I know the original creator said "sure, go nuts", you put some work into fixing it too so I thought I should ask you if that would be allowed.

this has always been my favorate avian ship but what always bothered me was that the row of rooms on the upper right side of the ship are one block higher than the rooms before it. you could say the same about the room with the big window but that one is clearly perfect for a garden/farm so i always fill the extra space with grass.

You'll have to upgrade or reset your shipworld. Changes to the ship aren't made until then.

Weird... I still see sparks on my end... Maybe I would need to upgrade the ship again for them to go away for good.

I changed the blocks image so it doesn't give the ship those sparks anymore on tiers it doesn't belong on.

Also I think I found an issue... I upgraded my ship to the second layout and for some reason I see sparks outside the ship like it was still damaged. Not that huge a deal but maybe something you could look into?

Man I really love this mod. I was getting really tired of the Avian ship's original layout. Just didn't seem functional at all...

It only adds a ship for Avian, so yes it should be compatible. No changes were made to ships in the update.

Is this still compatible with newest Starbound version?

@Jokiu this version only changes the ship for Avians. You can have it change the ship for another race by downloading the mod from Chucklefish's community forums.

Wait, does this mod change the ship for Avian characters only? Or for every character regardless of race? For me I'm hoping it only changes the ship for Avian characters.

Imagine if you could have a different ship for each characters individually, and not by race.
Like i could have an Avian with the original ship, and another with this crusier ship.
That would be pretty cool, if the game allowed that.

@goose noises for simple reasons, the steam version only changes one race (Avians) instead of all at once. You need to download the community forums version to change it for other or multiple races so you can choose what races do and don't have the ship, since the devs don't have an option to let you modify mods in such a way.

for clarification, does the workshop version by default change only the avian ship and the other races require manual installation, or does it change all the supported ships by default and you need to use the forum version to change only the avian ship?

@Sebs yup, download the forums version and extract whichever race you want the ship to be changed for. It's marked in ( )

@Sebs it changes those races too, but you get to choose which races because they're all in separate folders in the community forums version.

when you say the currently supported races does it change the ship for those races as well or just the avians?

Did you install a mod that removes ship backgrounds? This mod should never do that on its own

Got the mod yesterday. Deleted my character's shipworld file to get the ship. I started decorating it briefly before leaving and today, when I loaded my game, every wall of the ship had become transparent. Kinda weird and annoying cause I now only see "flying" rooms. It's sad because the design is way more cooler than the original and I'll uninstall it with regrets.

does this in any way break or conflict with FU's BYOS? theoretically it shouldnt, but im checking just to make sure

@Nosferatu you won't lose your items, but you won't be able to use the ship until you delete the shipworld file for the character you want to install it on. So you should move all of your items on your ship to a planet or personal space station, then delete the file. When you start the character back up, it'll replace your current ship with the modded ship and keep the upgrade tier so nothing is lost.

lets say, i have a bunch of stuff already on a lvl 2 ship and then install this mod, will i lose my stuff or?

Recommending that you include an alternative blockkey file that loads the Avian backgrounds from Racially Appropriate Backgrounds instead of the normal Apex backgrounds.

In the meanwhile I've made a minor fix for my own usage.

@Max To clarify, I believe he means a retextured ship such that it dosen't resemble the Avian race.

@Max I decorated the entire vanilla Avian ship and I felt really accomplished after. But it actually looks horrible, like it didn't help at all. I never want to have to experience that again xD

@jerrylee22 No problem dude. I wanted to get back into playing Starbound and hated the damned pizza format of the Avian ship xD, and I know at least how to fix up old mods (except complex stuff like lua).

i noticed that from the 4th image to the 5th image, some rooms extend downwards. What would happen if you already had placed objects (that require solid ground below) in those rooms before upgrading?

Hmm, I checked the mod page for Kazdra and even looked through its resources in the community forums version and it uses its own name for the ship. It doesn't even copy over the Avian ship. Maybe I could make a version of this mod to be compatible with other races including modded ones but I'd have to upload it to the community forums instead of Steam so it won't be a spam of the same mod.

If your ship is past Tier 3, then it won't work until you upgrade your ship to its next tier. If the Kazdra race modifies the Avian ship, then it simply won't work at all and it'll cause a clash of conflicting files and might screw over your ship.

Does the mod work forthe avian ship in the Kazdra Race? I ask because I tried & nothing happened. But maybe i just needed to make a new character.
