Never mind! I found out the correct way to color text.

Just for any of you who are confused as I was, remove the <> when choosing your color.
Example:
^Red;

I seem to be having trouble coloring text. I just barely installed the mod and don't have FU or any other large mod packs. I think I get the text to trigger.

These are the attempts to type in:
^<Red>;
^<red>;

I can tell that it's suppose to do something seeing as the prefix to change color disappears as soon as it's completely typed, though I see no change in color both in the editor and the book.

I have a pretty good suspicion that this is a bug, however if it's not the case then any help with how to actually do it is greatly appreciated!

This is EXACTLY what I needed. Being able to record data in a book like this is perfect, and it even makes sense that it would work this way.

@guvvo: No, unfortunately it does not, it should however support all the languages that Starbound supports and has characters for.

just two things that make me sad:
• can't edit an already-existing/started book or leave it in an unfinished form so more can be added or edited later;
• can't start writing on-the-fly.

any chance at all of these two features being added? a portable journal, perhaps, or an add-on to this mod to do just that?

on a related note, is there a limit to how many pages a book can have?

@Jake But its HAMBURGOR: Yes and no, you can't edit the same book, but you can "copy" a book and edit it that way, producing a new book with your changes.

is it editable once ye finish?

@Jokiu: I've taken a look at the bookstore mod, but I can't find any immediate issues or conflicts. Have you taken a look at the starbound.log and can you post any error messages that you might be getting in connection to the mod?

@patriciapattacini: Do you mean how to use it? Take a look in the 'Inventor's Table' to craft a 'Writing Station' and there is a tutorial book at the 'Infinity Express' at the outpost.

Everything this mod needs is stored inside the item itself, meaning if something goes wrong/you stop using it, all that will happen is that the books turn into the "Perfectly generic item". It's not gonna mess up any save files as far as I can tell.

Quick question. If I install this mod and play it with my friend will it corrupt my world or save files?
we have frackin universe and other stuff too but I just wanted to add this because it seems like we would use it lol.

Unfortunately you can't type in russian directly, but you can copy russian into books just fine.

Highlight the text you want to copy-paste. Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste if you're on a PC, Command-C and Command-V on a MAC, with c and v corresponding to the same commands as before. I don't know if Linux is any different, but it probably also has something to do with c and v.

No, unfortunately not. If you uninstall the mod, the books become unusable sadly. Similarly, all people in the multiplayer session need the mod to read the books.
But, it uninstalls without any issues (after the first restart).

If I were to install this mod, make a custom book in singleplayer, get rid of the crafting stations
and uninstall it, would the book be usable in multiplayer?

are there any quirks like once you install it uninstalling it makes it buggy?

This remains me of some challenge/ adventure maps in minecraft many years ago, when you could have a page. sign or a book that has writings in it.

Don't think there's any use of it for single player, but I'll give a thumb up for the idea.

@FireMario, do you have an english keyboard layout? If not, you might have to enter the '#' into the paste textbox and then paste it in. I'm sorry that is so clunky, but Starbound is very selective in that regard. I'm hoping I'll find a better solution eventually.

@Akor, I can't use # for some reason.

I tried copy-pasting my book in...it was way too long. Even the first chapter said it needed 3000+ ingame paper. :( Still a good mod that i could have a lot of fun with though. Lot of potential here.

The funniest thing is that my starbound avatar is based off my book's main character, and it's written in first-person, so it almost felt like he was writing an autobiography
