Yes, it is compatible with Named Saplings.

What is not - Server side mod.
Works fine in Single Player, and players connecting your universe with the mod installed.
I have not been able to get the mod to work on dedicated servers as it drops Perfectly Generic Item instead of saplings. Interesting enough; You can farm kelp saplings in Single Player and a Server still loads the saplings fine in your inventory.

Questions for this mod. I have the mod installed, with Frakin' Universe, and it works wonderfully in single player mode. However having the same mod setup installed on a seperate server, causes the mod to generate Perfectly Generic Items instead of the saplings for the same kelp I gather in single player.

Damn, nice cartridge image.

excuse the question, but it will be possible to create a version of this mod that works with the Frankin universe trees? is that in FU mod there are some pretty interesting trees, but that unfortunately do not drop saplings (as for example FU mushrooms and solarium tree)

No, it can be planted on the surface
Sixixix 29. nov. 2017 kl. 19:24
this a dumb question but does it need to be under water to grow

Starbound: NDS version. Now with more stylus-stabbing for the Florans! >:D

The icon for this mod is an original Nintendo DS cartridge. That's as nostalgic for me as starbound itself feels at times.
Val 23. okt. 2017 kl. 15:15
oh man I love the icon for this mod

I'd like think that mods are little cartridge or chips that you plug in into the big console that is starbound and the ds cartridge seemed cool and brings me nostalgia.

I really love that idea XD

1.- I thought Kelp in real life didn't count as a tree so I used "saplings" on the title but the game calls everything a "sapling" so I left that word on the description. Doing some research (i just googled it) I found out they don't even use seeds but spores so I changed all to saplings for consistency and to avoid confussion. Thanks for pointing that out. Also, they still count as trees, so they can be planted almost everywhere because all trees share the same sapling object. I'm working on another to mod to make all trees that drop produce into interactable crops, like apple trees, alien fruit, cactus, etc. another type of kelp is going to be added in that mod and being a crop type I will make it to require being underwater like any ocean crops.

2.- I wasn't aware of that mod but could be great to make a patch after I finish with my next mod to add both mods into the seed crafter.

Thanks for your comments.

There are two things I'm curious about:

1: The mod says "seedling", but the description says "saplings". Are these Kelp Seeds (like crops) or Kelp Saplings (like trees)? Also, do these need to be planted in water for them to grow (like coralcreep and reefpod) or just anywhere? Because I'd actually prefer seeing them be the former to keep them true-to-source.

2: There is a mod called "Craftable Seeds" which adds a Seed Maker station where you can create seeds and saplings in exchance for plant fiber and the resource the seed products (corn seeds need plant fiber and corn; apple tree saplings need plant fiber and apples). Do you plan on creating a 'patch' or compatability mod so your Kelp Seeds/Saplings can be crafted at the Seed Maker? Or is that too far in the future to think about currently?

Or simply miniaturize them.
Sleppy 19. okt. 2017 kl. 3:52
@Leafreo is that a hint that you may be thinking about another mod for "picking fruit" instead of needing to cut down trees?
Leafreo  [ophavsmand] 19. okt. 2017 kl. 0:02
@Magebrawler Aura Ill try to see what I can do, cutting and replanting trees is tiresome. an interactable tree seems better in this case.
umecoalpaw 18. okt. 2017 kl. 15:48
As much as I liked the toxic ones being the only ones to do that, I can't help but love this.
Leafreo  [ophavsmand] 18. okt. 2017 kl. 12:11
Thank you for the comments, I added some sprites for the saplings to make them look different from each other. Gonna upload pictures later, this was a 4 am quick project haha.
Magebrawler Aura 18. okt. 2017 kl. 10:16
Oh thank Christ. Now all that's needed is a way to grow fruit trees comfortably. And underwater crops without water, that'd be awesome.
that enby spider 18. okt. 2017 kl. 9:19
and now im off to make more additions to my underwater house
