UberPilot Transport System - State Machine Refactor

Major Changes

Allow custom helicopters
Added an option to allow for custom scripts, letting the player use custom helicopters.

Complete State Machine Overhaul
The helicopter transport system has been completely rewritten to use a robust state machine architecture for more reliable and predictable behavior.

  • New State-Based AI Control: Helicopter movement now follows clear states: FLY_TO_DESTINATION → AI_DESCENT → HOVER/PRECISION_HOVER
  • Seamless State Transitions: Helicopter can now smoothly transition from hovering to flying to a new destination without restarting
  • Dynamic Destination Changes: Set new destinations while in flight or hovering - the AI will automatically lift off and fly to the new location

Improved AI Landing & Descent
  • Simplified AI Descent: Completely rewritten descent logic - AI now uses native Arma landing behaviors for more natural helicopter movement
  • Drift Protection: Added safety checks to detect when AI drifts away from target during descent (40m+ drift threshold)
  • Automatic Failover: If AI landing fails or drifts, automatically switches to precision hover for manual repositioning
  • Smart Helipad Placement: Helicopter now lands directly at helipad objects for more accurate positioning


State Machine Loop Improvements
  • Command Detection: State machine loop now checks for new commands every frame
  • Race Condition Fix: State changes now skip processing old state to prevent conflicting transitions
  • Better Logging: Enhanced debug logging shows state transitions, command detection, and progress tracking

Robustness & Reliability
  • AI MOVE Management: All movement states now explicitly enable AI MOVE to ensure helicopter responds to commands
  • State Cleanup: Proper cleanup of helipads, waypoints, and AI commands when exiting states
  • Progress Tracking: Minimum distance tracking during descent with detailed progress logging

  • Visual feedback: Smoke signals now spawn at both pickup and destination positions for better visibility (toggleable)
  • Crew teleportation fix: Crew and team units now properly teleport to ground during extraction
  • Boarding improvements: Removed faulty boarding call to improve reliability
