With the Empire fully established, and most of the galaxy now subjected there were few to none conventional militaries left to stand against the might of the Empire, but instead insurgencies and guerilla groups took their place, and conventional Imperial troops faced difficulty in adapting to the unconventional methods employed by these groups.

Vector Company was an initially mixed group made up of volunteers and conscripts that were hastily trained in new methods of unconventional warfare by some of the Empire’s own veteran cold assault troops that had already experienced in fighting such insurgents on icy worlds. The unit’s insignia was inspired by an all clone unit in the Clone Wars era that was similarly a cold assault unit.

After their first few deployments the unit had produced mixed results partially due to their poor morale and ineffective command brought in by the conscripts mix, and sometime around the start of 3BBY the entire unit was wiped out except for a handful of surviving members.

The main cause for poor combat effectiveness was noted and as such the remaining members were retasked as trainers to retrain the unit up to full strength with the main difference being that the next batch would be a volunteer only force.

By late 2BBY the unit produced exceedingly positive combat results against insurgents in multiple theaters across the galaxy ,and proved itself to be a competent and reliable counter insurgency unit skilled in unconventional warfare ,and as such were given permission to retain their unit markings and insignia in recognition of their efforts by Imperial command.

The men in Vector Company were most notably known for their very friendly and relaxed approach to civilian populations in insurgent controlled areas, and had an emphasis on winning “Hearts and minds” instead of the widely employed fear mongering used by Imperial forces galaxy wide, but this often had them seen in a negative light by other members of the Imperial military as having any sort of humanity or “moral standing” is seen as inefficient, but Imperial command often turned a blind eye to this as it in no way hampered the unit’s notable combat efficiency which earned them a place among the empire’s best special operations units.

Vector Company’s status after the battle on Yavin is not publicly documented, but it is believed the unit is still active in service.
