In my case, I fixed this issue by copying my spy_red.vtf from the tf_movies/ folder and replacing the spy_red.vtf I had in my usermod folder. The correct spy_red.vtf should have a grey rectangle in the top left corner over the mask.

for anyone wondering why this might not work later, but will work after resubscribing or something, here's why that "bug" occurs

it happens when your "workshop" folder has a higher priority than the "tf_movies" folder, and if you download almost anything that involves spy, you will get these weird hands.

The reason why this addon might stop working for you in the near future, is because, just like mentioned, you downloaded another item that replaces some VMT and VTF files for spy.

While this is surely a good fix if you need the workshop folder to be in a higher priority, it shouldn't be needed if your tf_movies folder has a higher priority. Hope that helps :)

For those that get the issue after being subbed for a while, unsub then resub, fixed it for me!

For the people who are lazy enough to restart their SFM, here's a quick tip:
Open the console and input "mat_reloadmaterial spy" (without the "").
