Here's what I did in my world: I found one of thoes in-gravity asteroids, mined 99% of it, leaving enoulgh to anchor a station block Built this station off of that block. after that rotos behave 100x better.
It's not perfect, but.....
It looks amazing, very accurate, it's just unexpected to find an obviously non-functional cosmetic shell, within the exploration category.
The modless ISS I've seen had to eventually be expanded a block in every direction to make space for anything needed for survival gameplay and still retain the ability to move around the station or run a conveyer system, while still maintaining an air-tight modular station.
I don't think the real ISS would hold up to space pirate attacks, though I think it holds up much better vs meteor showers than any SE station ever could.
