Your experienced troops can now help your freshly trained squaddies reach new heights without needing to go into combat. A version compatible with the Officer Pack can be found here.

LATEST UPDATE: Removed redundant template edit.

Added mod achievement system support.

WARNING: This conflicts with any mod that makes slot changes to the GTS. Depending on load order either this or a mod like the Officer Pack will overwrite the other's changes to the facility. You will have to make a choice for now as to when you want to install this, or if you're feeling gutsy with your saves, install the Ignore Missing Content mod and basically toggle this on and off whenever you need it.

The addition to the GTS allows Sergeant+ soldiers to go on training patrols with Corporal and below troops. While out on patrols, they can't be deployed on missions, unless the training session is cancelled (in which case you'll have to start all over), but once they finish, your Rookies and Squaddies should earn at least a promotion to their next rank. With further patrols, they can even hit sergeant rank.

Leaders of these patrols also gain a will-boosting perk when they finish leading these training patrols.

The formula used to calculate training time, how much of a benefit mentors give out, whether rookies are allowed to gain XP, how high the rank gain from patrolling can go, the minimum rank required to train, etc have had their variables exposed in an .ini file for end user tweaking.

If you wanted a more detailed explanation of what exactly the exposed variables do and what you can change, edit XComRM_VeteranSlot.ini, which should be located at (where ever you have XCOM 2 installed)\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\629722935\Config

If you want to change the amount of will mentors gain, edit XComMentorConfidence.ini, located in the same place as the above .ini.


A big thanks to both Long War Studios and BlueRaja, for who without their mods and code (the Officer Pack and All Soldiers Gain XP respectively), this mod wouldn't have been possible.


BUGS & OTHER ISSUES:

SEMI-COSMETIC - Since XP doesn't seem to be something we can directly modify (at least as of now), I'm using BlueRaja's method of getting around that by adding kills to soldiers from his AllSoldiersGainXP mod. This means that soldiers getting ranked up will have "inflated" kill counts. Not a high priority, as I've edited the prompts to indicate the mentors are leading patrols to make this side effect more immersive.

MECHANIC - The GTS can glitch out and become unusable. Unfortunately I cannot figure out why and I have been unable to replicate this bug at all, and I have ruled out multiple base causes at this point

To others. If you were wondering No. this does NOT work with Wotc i spent over 3 hours manually checking which mod was preventing from wotc from launching. it was this one. cheers.

Does this mod work with WotC? I know it hasn't been updated specifically to be run with it, but if it still works, that would be great. I always liked the idea of a veteran soldier leading recruits out into the field. But doing it in actual missions or using the Covert actions just doesn't seem viable to me. Thanks for the great mod either way.

Just been thinking that having this as a new Covert Action could be a nice thing in WotC. Really not sure what the maximum number of soldier slots one can have on a Resistance Action (three?) but if it was half dozen that would be perfect.

Take your point about the Promotion rewards from Covert Actions, but having a way to bump up those lower ranked troops a little bit would still be nice.

Just a thought.

Probably not, Covert Actions fill in for this mod's functionality as far as I'm concerned.

It's almost like I put in a warning about this mod having conflicts with other mods that alter the GTS.

This mod corrupted my save game, It altered the officer training and rockie training slot messing the two up making impossible for me to train two rockies at once, will have to start another campain. I'm using LW2 of course, and no other mod that changes anything with GTS. Tread carefully with this one.
