This is a Standard Scenario for the Weardale & Teesdale Network Route.


Driving a double headed Class 24, we are detailed to run some steel and fittings for a new quarry conveyor at Barnard Castle. In keeping with the hybrid nature of this excellent route, the period of the scenario is set in the crossover between green and blue for British Rail. In reality, this section of the Weardale and Teesdale Network was already closed but it makes for a nice run.


Difficulty : Easy
Duration : 45 mins
Traction : BR Blue Class 24 Sulzer
Era : Late 60's/Early 1970's

**note**
You may get an issue where a signal won't clear as you leave Winston Station just as the steep gradient starts to rise to Broomielaw. You are held at this signal waiting for a local service to clear the single line ahead of you, but once he's clear you have the line. I advise to press 'TAB' every 10 or 15 seconds from when you stop at the signal until you get permission to pass incase it doesn't clear itself.
I tested it 3 times, first time it cleared then went back to danger as I approached although I was able to 'TAB' past it, the second time it cleared as it should, the third time it didn't show clear at all and I had to 'TAB' past it. I think the issue is with when you stop for the signal, your train rolls backwards slightly and confuses the signal into thinking you are going in the opposite direction.

Hi pjt1974. Thanks for this great scenario. Particularly interesting to me, was reading about the wagons, and some of their history via Shildon Works - so great 'local' content. Well thought out.

That was an excellent scenario IMO. I loved that long slow drag up to Broomielaw, I couldn't get over 20.8mph, now I know why you needed 2 locos. That is the first time I had driven that section of the route in that direction. It must have been hard work for the fireman in those steam days.
