leak-style combine robots

this mod makes combine robots look like their versions from the leak, or at least look styled after the 2003/leak combine metal aesthetic.

as of 11/8/25 this only includes hoppermines, rollermines, floor turrets, and scanners but manhacks will be added soon. ceiling turrets and cameras will not be added as they use the same texture in the leak and the final game.

features and changes:

- rollermines now have textures based off of an unused, blue version of the leak rollermine. they also look more simple and crude, with rougher metal textures.

- hoppermines are now based off of the general aesthetic of the combine metals used in the 2003 leak build. their warning light is also white now, as to blend in better with the rest of the mines body. the light also uses the texture of the combine gunship's belly cannon.

- floor turrets have a design based off of their leak counterparts, with a red stripe on their side, heat vents protruding from their side, and the color scheme and aesthetic of the 2003 combine metal. i also replaced the yellow city 17 logo with a red combine clamp logo.

- city scanners have a grimier look, with bits of their cage and faceplates worn down. they have a red circle painted on their faceplates as well, and i changed their spotlight texture to the one seen on the combot. they also use the eye texture of the combot.

honestly my idea of the combine's philosophy is stuff with exploitable weaknesses that hits hard and looks scary, kind of the same way they treat their living assets. it's made to scare and overwhelm and never really be used for long battles.

I think it's comparable to other alien sci-fi designs, the Combine is such an extensive empire it's not unlikely some of their designs come from other alien worlds and engineering and thus are only unified by insignia which is basically market branding

in my opinion i think the combine are much more "quantity over quality" when it comes to the stuff they manufacture. they're able to produce hundreds of military units and football fields worth of metal for the citadel but when you look into it, their equipment is heavily flawed and lots of their stuff is impractical at best and low quality junk at worst.

expecting any of the combines creations to follow a strict design philosophy aside from the gray metal, brutalist edges and cyan glowy stuff is wrong, at least to me.

i think Valve intentionally designed their stuff to look like haphazardly strewn together machines that can be produced in massive numbers, but again that's just my speculation

I also think people tend to overestimate the sophistication of the combines military equipment.

while yes their stuff is futuristic and powerful it lacks a lot of consistency, especially in their quality and design.

for example the ceiling turrets and cameras are huge and cumbersome for no apparent reason, especially considering that human security cameras are much smaller and compact.

another example would be the rollermines exploding when submerged. unless this is an intentional choice by the combine i really don't see any reason as to why you'd make your anti-personnel equipment explode when wet.

Not to be a bum but the normal scanner already is in-line with the gray and red philosophy of the turrets, cameras and other gizmos the Combine have, they're not marked persay but follow the color scheme albeit more desaturated I guess

the stripes seem to indicate stationary devices like the aforementioned turrets and cameras but also the uh... whatever thing in Nova Prospekt we first talk to Eli with
