Following the initial waves of exploration within the Enigma system, the colonists found themselves amidst a sector-wide pandemic from an unknown pathogen and were in need of large mobile civilian infrastructure; enter the Idris, a budget-friendly capital ship which has an onboard hospital and sectioned-off laboratory for studying new strains of this plague. Outside of scientific excursions, the Idris' night life is served as a militia command ship, a mobile operations hub for salvagers and miners, or a more comfortable internal-freighter for more affluent entrepreneurs.

Although its default loadout is somewhat bare - only being adequate for fighting off pirates - it can equip itself with a dual-railgun turret replacing its frontal cannons, and has undernose attachments for a salvaged military railgun, dual rotary railguns, salvaged navy torpedo launchers, and an industrial grappling arm for retrieving debris from open space.

Built with extensive service lives in mind, the Idris series features an ejectable main reactor for when repairs cannot be made - but only features some old hydrogen engines and its large battery capacity for backup power, so ejecting the core should only be done when necessary when a containment breach cannot be repaired.

Lastly, this series is also built with the V1 standardized C.L.A.I.R.E. AI, who monitors the ship's systems and alerts to any dangers that may be hazardous to the crew.

Ah ok, I had a feeling about turning some of it to heavy would make it more sluggish. I wondered how effective decoys were against player built missiles and stuff. Wasn't sure if they actually went after decoys or were only able to be defeated by PDCs and such but that's really good information to know.

Without shielding and stuff, I wondered how large vessels fared in vanilla based combat (I honestly haven't played without some kind of shield mod since Energy Shields first released waaay back in 2016 or somewhere around there), would watch videos on the Draconis server and stuff but wasn't too sure if they used modified values and such. Either way though, extremely hyped to play around with this and see about attaching the Mass Driver and playing around in a more optimized game haha

I wouldn't be able to use my typical armoring techniques since this wasn't built to have armor from the get-go. I could lazily replace most of the exterior with heavy armor, but then it would barely be able to move. I could also cut down on the extent of its components to replace those compartments with better-armored alternatives, but that would still leave it riddled with holes after a fight. With something this large, it's really hard to have it be "armored" without doing so from the beginning.

This was meant to perform as a civilian ship, so it's not super capable in combat unless you make field modifications to add armor to the exterior (which isn't hard to do), so I added a ♥♥♥♥ ton of decoys in areas of the ship that can be lost without impacting the survival of the crew too heavily. These just make it so turrets and player-made missiles go to those places before any crucial systems can be (intentionally) damaged.

Oh I missed that one, sick that the doors function, can't imagine klang being too happy about them working. Was honestly curious on how tough the Idris would be in a fight in SE, seeing the firepower on it looks really menacing and I'm pretty hyped to dive into the build and roam around the corridors and compare it to the one in Star Citizen haha.

As far as the rework would go, would it be a pretty sizeable rework? And would the increased armor make a pretty good difference? I'm still learning a pretty good amount about SE in the combat space

Awh, thank you :) I did drop the Idris awhile ago with its opening doors, but I had always planned on making a survival-ready version because clang's annoying.

It's not meant to be a military ship with how I've built it though, so it's survivable through sheer size and redundancy :p i've debated making a military-focused model with a reworked (uparmored) hull, but I'm not sure if people would want that.

I just love the insanely accurate and detailed ships you keep releasing, I've been rocking the Kraken since release and it's been my absolute favorite ship to chill and mess around with. Was a really awesome surprise seeing the Perseus and now the Idris. Absolutely love your work and can't wait to see what's next :wt_snail_hype:

Steam automatically assigns the DLC's, my builds use almost all of them and this is pretty well-known.

You use DLC Decorative pack 1-3, Signal pack, Heavy Industry, warface 1-2, Apex survival, Fieldwork pack, Automatons. Please update the DLC requirement for construction. Look very good :selike:
