Drum's Conquest Defence

描述
Defeat is inevitable, but how long you survive is up to you.

The aim of this mod is to allow the player to stay on the defence in conquest. Given modding limitations in GoH, attack missions are impossible to fully remove. So this mod rather aims to transform them into something else.

*Note* This is still very much in early develpment, so expect bugs, crashing and balancing issues. Some factions are also only partially integrated/balanced.

This was largely developed as a mod for myself and friends, but as it has grown, and given there are few alternatives for "defence only" in conquest I thought to make it public.

Conquest Defence - New Mode



Regular defence phases are largely unchanged. However, the enemy grows stronger every time you defend the same map. With time you'll be forced to retreat. It is more important to preserve your units at the cost of losing ground in this mod, as there are less resources to replace your lost units.

In the first phase (to replace the attack phase), you'll construct nodes:

  • Manpower Node - Can be sold for MP in the menu.

    - Built via the flag icon in the bottom right corner. Only 1 can be built. Need to select 1 soldier to build it.
    - Gains value with time on the field 100-1000 MP. When ready to retreat, place one soldier on the node (like capturing a vehicle) and sell it in the menu.

    The below are found under the Special Options menu in bottom right corner. Supplies spawn in the inventory of the nodes below.

  • Munitions Node - Generates ammo boxes to resupply your forces.
  • Fuel Node - Generate fuel barrels for resupplying vehicles.
  • Construction Node Generates boxes used to construct better defences.

*Note* Player must have units near the nodes (about 50m) for them to produce. If the enemy gets too close, they will mark and destroy them. Keep them well protected behind your lines.

Nodes will only produce in the new “Attack” phase game mode. They will not in the regular defence mode (where resources are gained from winning).


You can construct any combination of nodes to suit your army's needs.

Defend your nodes from the enemy for as long as possible. The longer you defend, the more you'll be rewarded - but the enemy grows stronger with time and your troops are hard to replace.

You get to decide the ground you fight on. Once the odds swing against you, collect your nodes/resources and retreat to fight another day.


Fight The War Year by Year


(Still WIP) Use research points to unlock equipment for each new year of the war. Later equipment will be locked until you research the correct year.

Enemy AI also closely follows the correct years of the war (although some slight exceptions have been made for the sake of balance).

This means:
  • Much like real life, each year of the war comes with unique challenges and you'll need to find effective ways to deal with sometimes superior enemy equipment
  • Enemy AI doesn't phase out equipment after only a few games creating more variety (stays roughly true to historical service dates)

Length of each year is determined by the campaign length selected.


More Changes & Additions



  • Repair Depot and Repair Trucks - Repair depots are built with construction supplies. When near an unoccupied vehicle they will grandually return it to working order.

  • More defensive constructions: Including dragable/modular trenches (you need an engineer to drag them and create large trenches quickly), pillboxes and repair depots.

  • Included more maps (credit to GrEYTvV's mod https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3069400446).

  • Included better vehicle riding from Jake's extra seats mod for soviets (https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3571858938).

  • Selling captured vehicles doesn't give you back any MP (MP needs to be earned instead through nodes).

  • Vehicles consume fuel much faster - stockpile fuel or be mindful of how you use mobile units.

  • Your artillery will consume a LOT more from trucks and crates to resupply - use your ammo sparingly.


AI Changes


The AI will now tow their artillery and AT guns into battle, and automatically unlimber when within range (implemented for Soviets so far).

AI will attack you with different divisions which have different unit compositions. You'll be notified of which division is attacking you at the start of the round. Different divisions will have more/less units.

AI will take time to regroup every few waves, giving the player a chance to temporarily recover
AI aircraft will now attack your large artillery and mobile artillery if you don't keep them covered with camo nets (or invest in strong AA to protect them). Camo nets require construction boxes to build.
The AI has no resource limitations
AI can attack you with "Vehicle Squads" which can consist of several tanks, or troop transports etc.
Some soviet tank squads will have infantry riding on the back
AI will be more unpredictable when attacking - it can randomly choose between flags or player units as it's main target


Additional Changes


  • Added a tank hunter squad to germans, with extra AT grenades, as a buffer between AT rifles and AT rockets
  • Increased survivability from explosions when in cover
  • Increased preparation time on missions (7-8 mins)
  • Increased wounded bleed-out time
  • Units take longer to get veterancy, but are much tougher and gain more skills with each level. Preserving experienced units brings far more rewards


Important Notes

  • It is highly recommended that you play with fog of war "ON" for the best experience
  • There are plenty of bugs yet to be fixed
  • Given the number of files edited, this is likely not compatable with other mods


Planned Updates

  • Custom objectives in defence missions, that give the player the opportunity to temporarily take the offensive and get more rewards.
  • LOTS of balancing changes
  • More unique divisions for each faction
  • More defensive emplacements
  • Compatability patches for other mods

I was playing a USA defense mission with Liberation maps, on a map called "Multi/DCG_Avaranches" and the Defense AI started shooting the cows and the game labeled them as enemies. I thought it was funny that the cows were aligned with the Germans, but I don't imagine that is intentional.

Just a minor suggestion since this is a defense mod. I like to use the extended fortifications mod to heavily dig in positions (not compatible with your mod, breaks the ability to build nodes). But i feal a good idea would be to make it so if i put a fortification supply box on a MG/AT gun/Tank i should get a fortify position option where it sets the at gun up in a hasty wood bunker, or places the tank in a tank ditch with a wood roof and sandbags etc.

can we get a mod that does the opposite of this; overhauls attacking? i dont like defence missions but i LOVE attacking missions

@metalbrute You just need to click and drag to reselect the soldier or another soldier. It’s a UI glitch that sometimes occurs when the game thinks you haven’t got a soldier selected.

Engineers worked for 1 round than I pressed restart and cant build any nodes besides MP? the menu for the others is compleltly empty including trenchs

@grittysmitty762 Unfortunately this is not an option due to the games modding limitations. Your best option is to carry over items earned from nodes into your next match to rearm. You will find when doing this, you spend a lot less rearming in the menu.
