Translate Lens

描述
Displays a projected translation of Ukrainian text when the player is looking at it within 10 meters.
The projected text will disappear after looking elsewhere.

Requires patch v1.6 or later

NEW IN v1.1.1
  • BUGFIX (1.1) → fix for potential CTD when loading prior save
  • Translations for world signs
  • Configurable options for Color, Always On and Update Frequency
  • Fixed issues with some graffiti items not displaying or aligned incorrectly.
  • Use NUMPAD . (period) keyboard key to toggle showing all nearby translations.

USAGE
KEYBOARD
Use mouse to aim crosshair at Graffiti item
Translation will be displayed after 1-2sec delay
NUMPAD .
Toggle between having all translations show when nearby and having to look at the translatable text in order for it to reveal itself
GAMEPAD
Use Left Stick to aim crosshair at Graffiti item
Translation will be displayed after 1-2sec delay

ROADMAP
This initial release contains English translations for all graffiti items and a few signs and posters that are displayed by the game using decal assets.

Depending on initial reception and community desire for additional features, the following are planned updates:
Model Translations
Add translations for signs, posters, 3d models of text (pretty much anything I have already converted within English Zone)
Language Support
Allow for other mod makers to modify the Translation DB for languages other than English.
Localization
Integrate into game LocalizationDB when SDK allows for it.

CONFIGURABLE OPTIONS
The following options are exposed for user customization in the user's Engine.ini file.

iSearchRate
How often (in seconds) the world assets are scanned for new translatable assets
bAlwaysShow
Translation overlays will show even when not being directly looked at.
R
How much red to apply to the translation overlay
G
How much green to apply to the translation overlay
B
How much blue to apply to the translation overlay

I would add a configurable option, i.e. "iTimeToRead" where the player can configure how many seconds of looking directly at the text it takes for Skif to "read" it (have an English translation pop up). Unless, of course, that's already what "iSearchRate" already does.

Is there a way you could make a key bind show this when you look instead? If so an option or version of this with that would be sick.

@NiutoN, I like that meaning much better.
I would probably use the English Idiom "Forge your own path" so it would look like:
EN: "Forge your own path, Stalker"
UA: "Прокладай свій власний шлях, сталкере"

"Get out of here, Stalker" literally translates as "Вибирайся звідси, Сталкер"

The font is the same used for in-game UI (just at a higher weight) and the texture/color is the PDA StaticNoise which is also used in screen devices and cutscenes. I will be allowing the customization of the color in a future update but the font is very unlikely to be changed.

Only thing I'd change is the font and text color to make it a little more fitting to the game itself. Still, this is a mod i've been waiting forever for. thank you!

@NiutoN, 2 reasons.
1. This is the mod I wanted to make all along but could not until a recent SDK update.
2. With this version I can setup the framework for people to do the same for languages other than English simply by editing the translation asset this mod uses. So if someone wanted to translate my datatable asset into . . . lets say Spanish . . . they could do so in a few hours and publish it as an add-on mod. With English Zone, it would be much more involved and take weeks to redesign all of the textures for Spanish, or any other language for that matter.
