Big thanks to Cam for creating this awesome world we're working on now!

From the original mod's description:

The Roman Empire struggled and failed to hold and maintain the Levant and Anatolia, and survive united until 1334. With no Byzantine Empire at its throat, the empowered Sassanids fought back the Islamic Caliphates and cultivated a massive realm for Manichaeism to grow, struggling against the rebellious remnants of the Pontic Empire and instead expanding towards India.

Meanwhile, the Roman Empire's intolerance towards Christianity creates an entirely new and hostile world for the Christians of Europe, and when they finally fell to the Turkic invasion, most of these new Italians shed their old Roman and Tengri Gods to convert to the rationalist sect of Alsababi Islam. The Germans meanwhile synthesize the traditions of their old Gods with the Hunnic-Gothic tradition into a more centralized model in reaction to the encroaching Romans in the 10th century, leaving the loosely organized but vast Kingdoms of Germania as an echo of their struggle. Can you manage to keep Christianity alive throughout this era of change?

More lore info available on the Big Book of WHY[docs.google.com] or the timeline[docs.google.com]!

Pretty much my goal for this mod was to make an extremely divergent but still plausible alt-history. Names, religions, legends, and cultures have evolved differently in more deep and nuanced ways than I find possible within the realm of possibility of the vanilla game experience, and I try to express this wherever possible. This is still in a fairly early stage of development but I can say fairly confidently it's starting to come into its own. Been such a blast building it and still got a long ways to go.

CREDIT:
-Extended timeline mod, I poached a lot of their religion stuff and some province localisation.
-AtlasTheTitan for being instrumental in the early success and cleanup of the mod!
-Slowpoke and their Inuit Model Improvement Mod for adding some much needed flair to the Inuit nations!
-Muscle Dog/Julius Caesar for help with provinces and events, such as the Croatian Settlement event chain!
-Pelior/Dracaric for helping with an absolute ton of flags, wealth of gameplay ideas, and being a great resource on Slavic etymology and Germanic history!
-Papa Smoke for being an insane help with religion, lore, design, flags, icons, and being an instrumental resource for Abrahamic theology!
-Big Juice for helping with a ton of leader names!
-Pascal for helping with Roman and Saxon history, flag help, and helping layout the Mediterranean update!
-Danwar for a lot of writing, helping with Roman Empire history, Armorica missions, & being incredibly helpful in the community!
-FearlesCriss for designing a Bayt Allah mission tree, a ton of culture shift events, and providing a wealth of other valuable feedback!
-Pagaes for designing the layouts for awesome upcoming mission trees for the Ut Dimissi, British minors, Bretony, & Alexandriyya!
-Master Yoda for providing some awesome help with Turkish etymology!

If I missed you or something you did and would like it credited or removed, please let me know.

And a special thanks to everyone else who is 1) really helping make this mod come alive and/or 2) helping me tie all the loose ends I inevitably forget and miss on the road of solo overhaul mod development. Y'all the MVPs. Though I really do appreciate every last one of you gamers diving into this extremely strange timeline.

I highly recommend using a flag banner mod in conjunction with this mod to improve the look of the flags, though it's ultimately a matter of preference.

@enginegun No worries, feel free to join the server if you wanna discuss some more with Cam and I. You seem to have a solid grasp of the history surrounding this.

Sorry for being rude, just really trying to understand the whole lore thing and I get hyper fixated, forget there's people behind the screen.

Doesn't *fix*

It looks like a Muslim's wet dream. They get to larp as "Rome" while actively destroying any christian minorities and persecuting Latin language in favor of Arabic. The City of Rome historically only sustained it's population due to constant migration from rural areas. It cannot be overstated how bad the situation was for the Western Empire. Britannia was a blackhole that drained resources to prevent raids, Spain was one of the only prosperous provinces. The western empire overall was less populated and less prosperous. Simply having a single dynasty constantly ruling fixes anything. They'd collapse sooner rather then later without anatolia. Also Christianity was already fairly widespread in the Empire, Alexandria would still become christian.

@red mage While Christianity is mostly a minority religion, it still preceded Islam in a very similar way - and Islam mirrors Manichaeism in that way of having a prophet who claims succession from Jesus. Christianity was more widespread in the Middle East especially before they would become assimilated by the Manichaeans and Muslims, whereas most of Islam's spread in Europe and the west was precipitated through conquest - with probably the biggest exception being the widespread conversion of central and southern Italy during the 14th century, when the Lireman Emperor was proclaimed Caliph. In this sense, the Romans adopted Islam partially because of its perceived glory - the conquests of the caliphates had much come at their expense and they wanted the glory back.

@enginegun At least read the Book of Why and Timeline before asking some of these. A number of your questions are directly or indirectly answered there.

Rome staying pagan is stupid, Christianity spread fast because the women would convert the men. Harshly suppressing Christians would just lead to the Sassanids hosting the first ecumenical council and hosting their head of faith like they did with the Nestorians. Vandals becoming muslim is stupid, IRL they were known for attempting the conversion of Africa to Arianism. No Visigothic kingdom, no sack of Rome. The western empire was much less wealthy and developed then the east, as that was where all the money came from.

It feels strange that islam got so big without the spread of Christianity that preceded it.
