Intro:
Hey! My name is TeH_Dav, and - with Zaljerem's permission and encouragement - I'll be taking over maintaining and updating this mod. This mod is a work in progress. I primarily use AI to do my coding, and while I do test the mods myself and tweak/wrestle the AI to address the issues I find, the technology is by no means perfect. AS with most mods, changes have a tendency to kick up bugs and potentially break saves. I'm hoping that the community will also help me in actively testing and diagnosing and bugs and edge cases they find.

Current version notes:
So, for this version we essentially created an entirely new dynamic wood generation system. Basically what that means is that the mod will look for defs containing plants that drop base game wood, then map them to the previously-existing wood types using scanning and analysis of context clues from the plant's name and description. Most modded wood log/lumber types that were patched via XML in previous versions were directly incorporated into that context analysis, so there -shouldn't- be any issues with backwards compatibility - but I reserve the right to be wrong. The mod will look at the context clues and determine if the tree should be mapped to an existing wood type. This system streamlines functioning by drastically reducing the number of XMLs needed in the mod, and preemptively addressing mods that add trees types.

I am always open and eager to look into suggestions for changes. Making a mod is far harder, in my mind, than editing and updating a mod.



Good news, everyone! I've added explicit compatibility and interaction between this mod and Simple Chains: Lumber (Continued), so now you can make lumber with even more extra steps!

Here's how the Tree-to-Lumber pipeline should look if you have this mod and SC:L installed:
1. **Trees** → **Logs**
- Harvest trees to get logs.
2. **Logs** → **"Green Lumber"** (via EW's green lumber recipe)
- Process logs at either the woodworking bench(EW; requires electricity) or carpentry trestle(SC:L; low-tech, requires smithing) to make raw lumber.
3. **"Green Lumber"** → **Lumber**
- Dry the lumber at SC:L's wood-drying rack using that mod's drying process.
4. **Dried Lumber** → **Furniture/Buildings**
- Viola! Lumber ready for use.

This feature has not been thoroughly tested and bugs are expected, so please report them as you encounter them (with logs in hand) and I'll get a fix out as soon as feasible!

Original mod notes (1.4):
I have always considered Rimworld a survival game, so every mod that adds some grade of difficulty catch my interest. Like many admirers of Hardcore SK, with the pass of time I learned to create my own modpack, following the same philosophy: The more problems you have, the more interesting it will be your story... For that purpose, in my opinion Expanded Woodworking is a must-have mod for any player who wants to overcome some challenge.

MOD
This is a revisited edition based on the forked mod made by Mercenary, upon Adventurer's version, which already was an upgrade of Qwynn's Expanded Woodworking [followed by Aquiles for 1.4, and thus to Zaljerem.]

New with Biotech! Polluted trees now produce rotten wood. Rotten wood cannot be converted into lumber, but can be restored into generic wood.

FEATURES

Trees, saguaro, and bamboo have their own unique wood.
Polluted Trees, like witchwood, produce also their own: rotten wood.
Every wood type (except saguaro and rotten wood) has a corresponding lumber.
Process logs into lumber at the woodworking table.
Restore rotten wood into generic to gain some raw materials in heavily polluted maps.
Lumber is used in both construction and in crafting.
Supports any starting scenario through using the crafting spot.
Raw logs are used as fuel!
Realistic wood colors!
Compatibility with any mod using wood as a fuel item.

INTEGRATED PATCHES:
If the patch added a wood type, it was incorporated; if it changed the functionality of ingredients of some item/etc, it was likely left as a patch. I did not personally test all of these.

Zal's version is still up on the workshop. This mod's description states this is a work in progress. I am actively working on it. I see no reason to revert here.

Switched also - startup errors gone and I van make any lumber I have logs for.

@TeH_Dav Perhaps, re-loading Zaljerem's version and testing this version a bit more might be in order

@TakeABreak, what tree is it that you experienced this with specifically. I need to look at a def to get an idea of how to make it so people can chop down a tree for wood, but also separately harvest a tree for fruit.

I did a complete rework of the mod focusing on using the xmls instead of dynamically generating everything, and that seemed to resolve the major issues from before. If any of you encounter new problems with the mod, please let me know in the bug reports section - logs preferred.

That is what it is supposed to do. What is supposed to happen is that people process the individual types of wood into raw lumber/green lumber of that type, then its supposed to be dried into lumber of its type. Unfortunately it seems the system isn't working as its supposed to right now. :/ Honestly, the whole mod isn't working as its supposed to right now.

Does the Simple Chains: Lumber patch retain the different wood types? As in, does pine wood become green lumber, and then dry into pine lumber?

In general it seems that the wood log category is not updated or added to the work recipes. Or that the newly added wood types are not correctly added to the "wood log" category, as I have to select them manually in storage zones, instead of just ticking "wood logs".

In the woodworking table only a small quantity of wood log types is selected by ticking "wood logs". All of the other types are not visible in the recipes.
