Useful Anicent Junk

描述
Did you ever find yourself wanting a reason (and the ability!) to bring home some of those bits and bobs from ancient ruins found out in the world when out on a caravan, raiding, or exploring? This mod might help scratch that itch!

This mod brings a small collection of uses to already existing assets out in the world:

  • Urns! - Such a common sight through the rim. Shake out the dust and ashes found within (Who put that there, anyways?) and now Urns can be used for storage! Sure, it may only be a single stack of meds, drugs, or various plants, but now you can at least protect such valuable resources from rotting if you can't find a roof to shelter under!

  • Ancient industrial shelves! (Odyssey) - Wow! This shelf hasn't rusted out completely! Too bad I can't store anything on it, or take it with me... Well, now you can! These shelves act the same as the construct-able vanilla shelves, so they're nothing special aside from the fact that they require no resources or research to make, just the luck to find them out in that bug infested warehouse you stumbled across.

  • Ancient Beds! - Tired of sleeping on the cold, hard ground when there's these perfectly fine, rusted out collections of springs stuck half way across the map? Worry no more, now you can actually MOVE these wonders of the old world to where ever you want! Sleep on the ground no more! ...Even if the ground is probably a better option for surgery and infection recovery.

  • Ancient Lamps! (Ideology) - Hey, that little light over there is neat! It doesn't require power, but it seems a little... dim. Still, it's good enough to light up this tiny hole in the wall, or give me some light to see what I'm doing at this work bench without adding any heat to the room. If only it wasn't in the most inconvenient place for me to set up my base... Problem solved! Mini-fy that lamp and strap it to your pack animal! Plonk it down wherever you like!

  • Ancient Wall Lamps! (NEW!) - Man, that self powered lamp is neat and all, but it always gets in the way. I wish I could figure out how to shove it onto a wall... Wait, I know what to do! With a bit of steel, a bit of research (Electricity), and a mini-fy'd Ancient Lamp, you can bodge together mounting bracket for that wonder of the old world. Just be careful about it, because that battery and filament probably can't survive being moved again after such an operation. (You can make the wall lamp movable in the Vanilla Expanded Framework mod options. Movement is disabled by default as a personal choice of mine.)

  • Not-so-Ancient Wall Lights! (Odyssey) – WOW! Would'ja look at that bright lamp on the wall that has its own built in battery that isn't dead out at that chemfuel plant we found, or those pretty green ones in the mechanoid facility we stumbled into. Too bad we can't take them with us, because that's some pretty awesome loot. Oh, wait, now we can! And unlike the jury rigged ancient ones, we don't need to worry about breaking the battery in this one if we need to rip it off the wall.

Fun sales pitch out of the way, here's the nitty gritty:
This mod was inspired by the mod Movable ancient lamp and bed. Adding urns as a tier 0 storage system and the old shelves as a jackpot for exploration for all that hoarding you want to do came next. Then the idea for the wall lamp was a natural extension. And then I stumbled across the Emergency Wall Lamps when trying to find some ancient ones in the wild during testing and had those added in, too, because someone asked on Movable Ancient Lamp and Bed.

This mod was commissioned by me, and all xml / code work was done by Airo – Absolutely fantastic person to work with, if you get a chance!

    Compatibility:
This mod is basic xml work. It -should- work with most things, but there are likely going to be compatibility issues with mods that allow you to minify everything. This mod creates its own, unique minified Ancient Lamp in order to allow the creation of the Ancient Wall Lamp. As I don't use many of those, I've not tested it. Sorry.

If you have the Movable Ancient Lamp and Bed mod installed, you CAN swap these two out mid save from what minor testing I did. Be aware, you will need to install then uninstall any Ancient Lamps you have on hand before they can be used for the wall lamp.

    Requirements:
Adaptive Storage Framework is needed to make the urns and shelves work / hide what they're holding. It looked better, graphically.

Vanilla Expanded Framework is optional, but required if you would like the mod option to minify the ancient wall lamps. It'll be listed under that mod's options menu.

This mod will probably work without Odyssey or Ideology, it might just throw some errors about trying to make changes to things that don't exist.

Looking at the Ancient Storage Cylinder, they're flavor texted as "An ancient device that looks like it once stored some kind of fluid. Valuable parts are missing, and everything else is degraded to uselessness." I'm not sure what they could be used for as far as storage in basic Rimworld, but I could see them -maybe- being used as a building block for something in the Scrapper style. That though, is out of the scope of this mod. Maybe combine a bunch to make something that holds beer or chem fuel, but those aren't 'tier zero' items.

That said, they're good suggestions, so I appreciate you taking the time to bring 'em up.

So here's the angle I was going for with this mod as far as storage goes:
- Does the flavor text / graphic of this item suggest it has not rotted to uselessness?
- Does it logically feel like something that could protect something it held from rotting?
- Does it add something that isn't just clutter?
- Would it make a good tier zero item?
- Is it something that there aren't tons of in a single map?
- Is it at least somewhat vanilla friendly?

The crates felt like they were rotted beyond salvage and wouldn't be able to protect what they held, or would be 'This holds a single stack', making them clutter. They also tend to be found by the ton on the map, so they're not 'special', where as the shelves felt like an uncommon 'special item'.

there some sort of weird containers called Ancient Storage Cylinder and uh ancient small crate and ancient spacer crate.

I'd idly considered some of the crates; likely would be a good place for me to learn more xml related stuff (Rather than paying someone else to do it like I did for this mod), but it hasn't been something I have wanted to put the effort into vs playing the game. Same goes for some of the chemfuel storage units.

What cylinders are you talking about though? Nothing jumps out at me unless you mean some of the rusted out barrels and such.

Will this also include the containers for the cylinders and the crates? they seem pretty neat,

I don't plan on adding the ancient pod launchers, no. Primary desire of this mod was meant to focus on the early-early game; I tend to play with VFE: Tribal starts with the Tribal story teller that punishes fast research plus Semi-Random Research, so I tend to not have access to any kind of storage or lighting (Aside from campfires and torches) in my playthroughs for the first year or so.

The Pod Launchers were single use but actually usable from the map you find them on, but not something I felt a huge desire to bring back to my base the one time I found them.

will this later include the ancient pod launchers ?

@Starman With Urns, I know you'll need to claim them then set the actual options of what you want to store in them; by default, they're set to store nothing.

I need to poke at the shelves in my save some, because I've noticed they seem to have stopped working right (I can't claim some of them) and I don't know why. I'm, sadly, not an xml wizard, and with a mod list of 200 some odd mods, I'm bound to have run into some kind of conflict.

Are you seeing a similar issue with Ancient Shelves specifically?
bradson 9 月 24 日 下午 10:29
@Starman you have to claim buildings for pawns to start hauling to them
Starman 9 月 24 日 下午 6:23
Unfortunately, for some reason, the mod isn't working correctly. Ancient junk appears as containers, and the container settings are displayed, but pawns don't interact with these containers. There were no errors in the log. All mod requirements are met.
