The GT-SM is an upgraded version of the Soviet GT-S tracked transporter, designed for extreme off-road conditions, including swamps, deep snow, and rugged terrain. Its primary role is to transport troops, cargo, and tow artillery systems in environments where wheeled vehicles fail.
After the USSR’s collapse, the GT-SM remained in service with Russia and other post-Soviet states. Despite newer vehicles like the DT-30 Vityaz, it is still used in northern regions, geological surveys, and emergency services due to its ruggedness and reliability.
