A Giant Problem

描述
A Level 1-16+ campaign inspired by the classic modules G1-2-3: Against the Giants (1978) by Gary Gygax.

Background:
The last few weeks have seen increasing goblin activity near the village of Neganburg and reports of hostile giants in the vicinity. To make matters worse, the leader of the town militia, Lucas Stormspear, mysteriously vanished from his home last night! With the militia fully occupied by the goblin threat, the town lacks the resources to investigate Lucas' disappearance. Can you find the missing town militia leader and bring stability to the area?

Notes:
  • Level 1 characters will advance to level 16 (higher with UB mod, though I have not tested it with UB). The storyline is linear, with a focus on combat.

  • The opening quest takes the players to approximately Level 7, then the Hill Giant quest begins. The main quest continues after the Fire Giants in a manner inspired (very loosely) by D1: Descent into the Depths of the Earth (1978) by Gary Gygax, and Q1: Queen of the Demonweb Pits (1980) by David Sutherland III and Gary Gygax.

  • There are 55 unique locations, 36 custom magic weapons with descriptions, and 122 custom monsters.

  • Be sure to actually read (using the game mechanics) any documents you find to advance the quests. On the PC, this is done by right-clicking the item and selecting "READ". You will need to know the language of the document (or use spells or magic items) to read the text. Magic items to assist reading languages are available throughout the campaign, but knowing Goblin, Giant, and Old Tirmarian languages will make things easier.

  • In some cases, there may be consequences to leaving an area to long rest (i.e. you should not assume you can go into a monster stronghold, kill half the inhabitants, then leave and come back as if nothing happened). Consequences are more likely if the monster boss is still alive.

  • Many of the encounters will be challenging. Recommend using the 'max hp per level' setting. A party with at least one "tank" with high armor class and a spell caster capable of casting area denial spells like spike growth, wall of fire, etc. will be helpful. As in the original modules, the use of stealth to scout areas and setup ambushes is a good strategy. A minimum of 4 party members is required to complete some puzzles in the main quest.

  • I have playtested solo (PC) and co-op (PC-XBox). Please let me know if you find any bugs.

If I'm thinking of the correct door, it should open automatically when the Queen is spawned. You killed the Queen, correct?

Actually, I'm going to try this: I'm going to try attacking thru the door straight south of the entrance from the Undercroft. It's locked, but I think I opened and closed it from the south side during scouting Will let you know if it works.

....Continued from below - the rest of the story from before the plea for help:

...The Burial Vaults were all cleared except two Spectral Avengers in the east burial vault.
When I trigger them, it sets off everyone in the whole southern section.

From there, it looks like they will all need to funnel thru to the east thru the Gallery of Statues to get to us. Except when His turn comes, He freezes up by a pillar and jutting out wall kind of in the middle, just a few steps from where he starts to the east of the Monument. He just stands there and twitches his arms.

Any advice? . . . .

I am Still so loving this. It might be my favorite! Now, I'm afraid I am stuck at a possible bug:

Deldrach Magrieth glitches up in the crypt.
The whole story: I got down there and invisible-rogue scouted the whole thing (light looting)
- including His Tomb and therein found the Key of Starlight I believe.
(Since stairs up were accessible without alerts, we scouted the upstairs sorak area too.)

Then back down and cleared the two burial vaults Mostly by luring them out thru walls of fire and blade barriers and spell/sniping. (then long rest and re-equipping/attuning)

Any advice? How far back might I need to go? Or any other way slap him out of it or something?
I restarted from a couple quick saves and even restarted the whole game.

Well done and thank you. I appreciated the nod to the old Giants Campaign and found this to be a real story that was enjoyable. The combat was intense and I enjoyed the challenge – thank you again for your time and efforts!

Absolutely fantastic campaign! The best user campaign I've played. Question about a possible bug. Spoiler ahead: I've killed both the named undead in the crypt level below the Sor Akkath temple in the Blackwood mire, but neither of them dropped a key? I've also opened every chest on that level and there was no key in any of them either. The only two chambers I haven't cleared are the two burial vaults, but I've emptied all the chests in them. Did I hit a loot drop glitch? Or is the key on one of the undead in the burial vaults?

dantastic: Each chain toggles specific gates. The torches indicate which gates are open/closed. You can pull each chain to see which gates it controls, then pull again to reset the gates before pulling the next one. That way you can see the gates each one will toggle and figure out the right combination. Easiest solution is to only pull the far left and far right chains.
