GX - Drones

描述

Hello everyone!

This mod aims to add a little bit more spice for those who enjoy operating drones. The mod is a joint project between Turpin and myself, and I dare say this might just be the best one I released yet. The mod currently includes 5 new drones (with plenty more to come) as well as a framework to pickup, deploy and recharge drones inside your inventory.

If you are looking to add an extra touch of realism to your drones, check out Drone Signals by Turpin to restrict your connection ranges.

Included Content

The RQ-11B Raven is a lightweight, hand-launched reconnaissance drone designed for quick, close-range surveillance. This can be deployed through the usual methods which will start the animation for the player to throw the drone in the direction they are facing. (Disclaimer: Please check the "Discussion" section for more info)

The MQ-8B Fire Scout by Northrop Grumman is our first large scale drone to be added to this mod in both armed and recon variants. Make sure to check out the vehicle garage for this one as it has parts that can be hidden as well as some benches that can be unhidden that allows it to carry up to two people. Bare in mind that the real variant did not have this feature, but we figured we would add it to give you all a bit more spice.

The Black Hornet 4 is a very small drone meant for short distance flight. Its ideal for flying through windows and checking out the interior of a building. The drone can be deployed through the vanilla drop and assemble system or ACE which gives you an additional option to deploy it via the equipment menu.

The Drone40 is a drone that is deployed via a 40mm grenade launcher. Its sports a Recon variant with a 360 capable turret, a HE version with a small explosive yield and a smoke variant. The drone can be deployed through a grenade launcher, via the vanilla drop and assemble system or ACE which gives you an additional option to deploy it via the equipment menu.

The Honeybadger is a UGV meant to destroy or disable vehicles by driving underneath them and detonating. The drone can be deployed through the vanilla drop and assemble system or ACE which gives you an additional option to deploy it via the equipment menu.

Alongside the new additions, compatibility has been added to all vanilla and CDLC drones to have inventory items that can be picked up and placed with our drone interact framework. Say no more to big bulky backpacks with 0 inventory space.

Compatibility
ace - Soft compatibility for ace interactions and pylons used in the MQ8B.
RKSL Studios - CVWP - Soft compatibility for specific pylons and ammo used in the MQ8B.
Western Sahara - Soft compatibility for inventory items and drone framework for AP-5 Bustard and the IED UAV.

Upcoming Content

The THeMIS is the next planned addition to this mod, we've made some good progress so far but we still need to finish out the majority of the armed/turret models and texture work before it is released here.

* The above are just renders with no textures applied, the final product will look quite different

Same update as the Western Sahara & Reaction Forces! However, I've been trying to find the latest drones on the right tab less than 30 minutes. Turns out it can be found in the magazines section, not in the miscellaneous section anymore.

The new update is out - we do want to add a huge disclaimer that we know about the issues with the RQ-11B Raven's flight model.

It should be fairly ok in singleplayer environments at higher fps, but we are seeing issues on servers and at lower fps which appears to be messing with the simulation. We are actively working on a solution but mainly wanted this out early to test the rest of the changes.

Very cool mod, nice job gentelmen!
So far I used a lot of Black Hornets and enjoyed them a lot. They (alongside with other small drones from the mod) gave me a lot of cool moments while playing DRO with ACE.
As a feedback:
1. I noticed that the drone (when stabilized via auto hover) drifts sideways and crash sometimes into trees/buildings.
2. When controlled via UAV controller BH cannot go to waypoints - it kinda tries by tilting a bit, flies towards the waypoint several meters, but then immideately stops and stay stabilized and waypiont disappears.
3. Can the speed and msx distance be limited? I managed to fly the BH at 170 km/h quite stable and while I'm kinda okay with it in terms of flying across South Sahrani, it breaks the immersion of smol tactical drone for enemy's dump pouch cheking.
4. Can cameras be angled down a bit like in the real BH? Not a real hard problem, but it would be more convenient for observation.

Once again, thak you a lot for the great mod!

Would it be possible to make a version of the honeybadger that doesn't explode? I've been looking all over for a small rolling/driving drone that can be used to scout out a building for cqb.

IRL 2025 is already ahead of Futura 2035, what a timeline... anyway! great mod, add really cool ideas.

Thank you so much Turnip. We really love your mod and using it every week. It would be great to have these issues fixed in the future.

Maybe it's not a good idea to put all these information in the players namespace. We are acting in teams where different soldiers could pickup and recharge the drone, depends on where they land. So everyone should see the correct battery state and be able to control, recharge etc.

@Knight ⚔, appreciate the feedback!

1) There's a few limitations with keeping track of the fuel/ammo and you generally won't have issues if the player picking up the drones is also the one deploying them. We store all the fuel information in the player namespace when the player picks up the drone (as we can't track information in the inventory items directly) and load it when the same player places the drone.

I've thought about adding options to only allow the player who placed the drone also be the only person who can pick it up, but I found it to be a little limiting to fix something that is relatively minor.

2) Already been reported and fixed, with be included in the next release. Should only affect the drone items placed from inventory for now, so vanilla spawned uavs should continue to allow battery recharging.

3/4) Will look into both of these before the next release!

The latest changes were so awesome, but unfortunaltly we've found a few bugs:

1.) The battery status of the drone is often wrong when deploying and pickup them, especially when a player using multiple drones or other player connecting to the drone.
2.) We are not able to recharge them with UAV battery with ACE menu?!
3.) When there is not enough space in the backpack to pickup the drone it will be deployed in a bag infront of the player, but only this player can see the bag. For all others it is invisible.
4.) The IED UAV seems to have unlimited ammo. When you pickup and redeploy it, it is fully rearmed again which makes it overpowered.

@Panda, I've gone ahead and added this as an additional class with the benches already out, didn't want this as default. Will be in the next update!
