A patch for Vanilla Races Expanded - Fungoid. Ever got frustrated that you could never really make your pawns fungoids without losing out on ever improving their skills?

This mod removes the "No Study" gene on the Fungoid xenotype (the gene that causes them to be unable to gain any experience for their skills) and replaces it with the vanilla Pyrophobia gene (a gene of equivalent metabolic cost, but with a less restrictive gameplay effect). I saw that there was some demand for this change and thought, "why not" and made its own mod for it. Hopefully it gives those who want it some extra enjoyment with this mod.

This can be loaded in an existing save, however it will only affect newly spawned Fungoid pawns. If you want an alternate version of this patch that simply removes the "No Study" gene with no replacement, check out the alternate version to this patch: Fungoids can learn actually!

Exactly. Fungoids are Xeno-Humans, and per "Rimworld" lore they are still men. They aren't zombies. (If you want something closer to Fungoid Zombies, get the Alpha Genes Mod and look for the Mycoliths, who are mostly compromised.)

I love the idea of a Pawn with Fungoid infection still being who they are. Slower? Dumber? Yes, because the mycelium cracking their brain isn't normal or natural. Yet when they cook their meals, sit and talk with others, you know: "that's still Billy Bob."

(In case you couldn't tell, I also replaced the Instant Vomit Gene with the Repulsive Gene. That gives a massive opinion malus, but it doesn't make them throw up.)

@zeus57007 if they were mindless zombies then why are you able to recruit them in the first place ?
obviously there is some semblance of person in there, this mod just allows that person to hold on a little while longer by practising more

It's because my Based Mushroom Giga-Chads aren't drool-sucking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that are incapable of learning, forget who they are, and make you vomit on cue. I find those "features" to be STUPID and I remove them, but I LIKE BALANCE so I replace them with something that makes sense.

Specifically, I replace Instant Vomit with Repulsive (basically permanently making them ugly) and Slow Learning.

@zeus57007 See my second to last comment. You don't like it, don't use it. That simple. These patches exist purely for those who want to tailor their Rimworld experience how they want.

dawg... why are you making the zombie-like xenotype inspired by the clicker zombies... not zombies? You gonna take the claws off the saurids, or get rid of their lizard voice? You gonna take away the deathrest gene from the vampires, or make the werewolves not turn into werewolves?

@krazyfan1 Modifying how the Gene Infector gene works is a bit beyond my ability atm, but I did create a patch that replaces it with the vanilla Gene Implanter. Check it out here: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3435626742

You are free to not use this patch if you are fine with fungoids being unable to improve their skills. This is entirely for those that want to be able to experience the fungoid xenotype without this limitation.

Good change, won't be getting this one though, since getting my pawn turned into a fungoid is supposed to be a bad thing for that very reason.
